Søndervig: North Sea beach, dunes and leisure
Accommodation in Søndervig
Søndervig has been a popular seaside resort since the 19th century. The North Sea beach, cycling and leisure activities offer different ways to enjoy your stay.
North Sea beach and dunes
Søndervig’s beach lies on the North Sea and is characterised by high dunes and fine sand. A 200-metre-long paved path gives wheelchair users, visitors with pushchairs and people with mobility difficulties access to Søndervig Beach. The Badepunkt label highlights good bathing conditions, high water quality and a focus on safety.
If you want to make the beach the focus of your stay, the dunes, sand and access via the paved path are useful points of reference. The label, in turn, identifies bathing conditions, water quality and safety. This makes it possible to consider the coast as a focus in its own right, alongside the town’s cycling and leisure activities.
Cycling and regional history
National cycle route 4, Danmark på Tværs (N4), is 310 kilometres long and runs from Søndervig in the west to Copenhagen in the east. There is a cycle station in Søndervig on the “Fjorden rundt” cycle route. These two details show different aspects of cycling: a long route with the specified endpoints and a station on another named cycle route.
The history of cycling can also be traced back in time. Many people were already cycling from Ringkøbing to Søndervig before 1922; the area’s first cycle path was inaugurated in 1922. This historical development complements today’s route information without equating the two routes.
Water park and indoor play area
Lalandia Aquadome in Søndervig is a large tropical water park with water slides, hot pools, a sauna, a wave pool and children’s areas. It has indoor and outdoor areas. Water activities are supervised by at least three trained lifeguards. Booking admission in advance secures access on your chosen day. Day visitors can also buy an admission ticket at the water park entrance.
At Lalandia Søndervig, Monky Tonky Land is a large indoor play area with numerous activities for children. Day visitors are also welcome. As access conditions may change, it is best to check them before your visit. The play area and the water park are two different offerings: one is an indoor play area, while the other includes water activities as well as indoor and outdoor areas.
Sand sculptures, golf and other activities
The Søndervig Sand Sculpture Festival is an annual open-air art museum in the coastal dunes. Sand sculptors transform a 200-metre-long and 7-metre-high sand wall into an art installation featuring ten unique solo sculptures. A large sandpit is also open throughout the festival season, where children and adults can build their own sand sculptures.
Holmsland Klit Golf Club – Søndervig has a main course and a par-3 course. Tee times for both courses can be booked directly. Anyone can play the par-3 course; it is flat and easy to walk. Søndervig Fodboldgolf offers families football golf and other football activities. Walk-in visitors and planned football events are welcome there.
Funbikes Søndervig has a track for fun vehicles, offering holiday entertainment for children and adults. There are also old bunker remains north of Søndervig. The nearby Houvig bunker complex offers several guided tour options.
