Dunes, North Sea and Fjord

Årgab lies on the Holmsland Klit peninsula in a hilly dune landscape. From the dunes, you can see the North Sea on one side and the fjord on the other. This combination of sea and fjord views is the defining feature of the area's landscape. If you are looking for a hotel for a stay in Årgab, you can use the landscape as a starting point and then decide whether beach visits, walks or water sports will feature most in your travel plans.

Beach and Access

The beach at Årgab is visited year-round by locals and holidaymakers for walks and swimming. This offers two different ways to enjoy the beach: being active by the water and spending time swimming. Its year-round use means the beach is a place to consider for more than just a summer stay. When planning, consider which of these activities is more important to you, or whether you would like to combine them.

Access to the beach is via Sønder Klitvej and a side road signposted towards Mettes Bjerg. This leads to a car park with toilets. From there, a 100 to 150-metre path crosses the dunes to the beach and the water. The path is short, but it crosses the dunes; take this final stretch into account when visiting the beach.

Paths and Water Sports

A paved path connects Årgab with Hvide Sande and can be used for cycling and walking. Unlike the short dune path to the water, this route connects Årgab and Hvide Sande. For your planning, it answers a different question from beach access: would you like to use a route between the two places, or take a short path from the car park to the sea? Both options involve walking, but they differ in their destination and surface, and the paved route can also be used for cycling. As access infrastructure can change, check the current conditions before visiting the beach or using the paved path.

The “West Wind” water sports area is located at the northern end of Årgab. If water sports are a factor in choosing your destination, this area is a point of interest in its own right, alongside the beach and connecting path. You can consider this activity separately from beach walks and the cycling or walking route to Hvide Sande.

The Sømærke at Årgab

The Sømærke at Årgab adds a historical point of interest to the landscape and activities. It dates from 1884 and was listed for protection in 1997. The two dates refer to different events: 1884 is the year the Sømærke dates from, while 1997 is the year it was listed for protection. This distinguishes its origins from its later protected status. If you would like to consider a historical point of interest alongside beaches and paths when choosing your destination, the Sømærke is a specific place to explore.
