Skaven at Ringkøbing Fjord
Accommodation in Skaven
Three aspects are particularly easy to explore when planning a trip to Skaven: Skaven Strand, the watersports there and Skaven Lystbådehavn. The beach lies on the eastern side of Ringkøbing Fjord. If you are looking for hotels in Skaven, you can first decide whether to focus your trip on the beach, surf spot or harbour.
Beach and orientation
Skaven Strand is a sandy beach on Ringkøbing Fjord. It is very shallow, with a low water depth, and there is also a bathing jetty on the beach. Parking and a playground are nearby. This makes it possible to distinguish the beach area itself from nearby features: sand, shallow water and the jetty characterise the shore, while the car park and playground are close to the beach. There is also a charging station for electric bicycles at Skaven Strand. If you are planning to travel by e-bike, you can take it into account as a practical point of reference.
Windsports and wind directions
Skaven Strand offers good opportunities for windsurfing; the spot is used by windsurfers and kitesurfers. Skaven Strand / Hemmet is also a flat-water spot. The best wind directions for the surf spot range from southwest through west to northeast. Strong or stormy winds from westerly directions can offer good opportunities for jumps and tricks. When planning, it is useful to distinguish between the wind details: the preferred range of directions and the opportunity for jumps and tricks are not the same thing; the latter depends on strong or stormy westerly winds. If windsports are a key part of your stay, check the current wind conditions in advance.
Marina and walk
Skaven Lystbådehavn has been in existence since 1972. From there, you can walk along the beach to Ringkøbing Fjord. The marina is the starting point for the walk, which follows the beach to the fjord. You can also buy fresh fish there from one of the local fishermen. The harbour therefore offers both a walk and the opportunity to shop locally; the year gives an indication of the marina’s history.
Landscape and conservation objective
At Kræ Wolle’s Havn, a small area is registered as a protected beach meadow. There is also an aim to preserve a unique hunting and fishing hut environment along the coast of Ringkøbing Fjord. The two details highlight different aspects: the beach meadow is a protected area, while the hut environment is the subject of a conservation objective. Landscape and coastal culture thus complement the beach- and sports-related themes with other aspects to consider when planning your trip.
The charging station at Skaven Strand can be a practical planning point if you are travelling by electric bicycle. The beach meadow at Kræ Wolle’s Havn offers a different connection to the landscape. Together with the activities at the beach and harbour, these give you a range of travel interests to use as a guide when searching for a hotel in Skaven.
