Nærum between the village pond, forest, and village history
Accommodation in Nærum
Around the village pond, in the small Eventyrskoven forest, and along nearby paths, Nærum reveals itself from different perspectives. When choosing a destination, you can weigh up local history, an imaginative attraction for children, and nature trails. This lets you decide what to focus on during your stay by looking at specific places and routes.
Village pond and traces of old Nærum
Nærum is believed to include the municipality of Rudersdal’s oldest village settlement. Reminders of the village can still be seen in old Nærum around the village pond and along the nearest section of Nærum Hovedgade. The area’s history is therefore visible in specific places: by the pond and along the nearby stretch of road.
The small green recreational area Gadekæret lies north of Hartmanns Plads. The area includes a village pond and paths around the water; local residents use it to relax and walk their dogs. Here, memories of the old village meet a present-day spot for walks and time by the pond. If you want to get to know Nærum through a single place and its surroundings, Gadekæret offers a specific point of reference.
Forest and play opportunities for children
Eventyrskoven is a small forest near Kikhaneengen, behind Nærum Gadekæret. It is a whimsical outdoor space for children: information boards depict seven fairy tales. You can access it from Nærum Gadekæret; parking is available at Nærum Church. Another entrance is from Egebækvej, along a path just beyond Rundforbi Idrætsanlæg. Parking is also available there.
Another option for children is the playground in Biblioteksparken in Nærum, where they can slide, swing, and play in the sand with a wooden car. The two options therefore differ in what they offer. At Eventyrskoven, the fairy tales on the boards take centre stage, while the playground has a slide, a swing, and sand for playing. If you are planning a trip with children, you can decide whether the forest setting and its stories or the specific play equipment matters more to you.
Nearby trails
Near Nærum, a marked yellow trail runs through Bøllemosen. The 4 km trail is a circular route around the forest; check the trail conditions before your visit. Also nearby, the forest paths in Jægersborg Hegn are suitable for people with limited mobility and for pushchairs. When choosing, you can take into account the specific circular route in Bøllemosen and whether the paths in Jægersborg Hegn meet your needs.
Another point of reference in the area is Skodsborgvej, which crosses Jægersborg Hegn in the direction of Nærum. The forest paths and this road connection are different aspects of the area: one point concerns paths in the forest, the other the route of Skodsborgvej. This makes it clear which information relates to the paths and which to the road.
Architecture and local history
The building complex of Nærum Church combines the historicist Neo-Romanesque style of the 1930s with the functionalism and modernism of later periods. This stylistic blend therefore spans more than a single phase of construction. Anyone interested in architecture will find a combination of different periods in this named building complex.
Visitors can hear the story of the Hartmann Monument by calling 99 400 819 (8). For a deeper look into local history, the Historical Archive in Nærum has a reading room. Visitors can use the extensive book collection of Rudersdal Museer as well as complete collections of local newspapers there. The newspapers date from 1 January 2007 for Rudersdal Municipality, 1915 for Søllerød Municipality, and 1952 for Birkerød Municipality.
The Historical Archive’s collections can be searched online. Requested material can be ordered by email for use in the reading room. If you are looking for a specific period, you can take the different start years of the newspaper collections into account when choosing, then request the material you want to consult in the reading room.
