Lukač Municipality – Kurija Janković, Cultural Heritage and the Drava
Accommodation in Lukač Municipality
Lukač Municipality offers several distinct points of interest for planning a trip: Kurija Janković in Kapela Dvor, the cultural heritage of the village of Lukač, and activities along the Drava. Architecture and folklore provide a cultural focus; cycling, fishing and recreation bring the river into the picture. Kurija Janković is a specific hotel option for an overnight stay. You can plan your visit according to whether you are more interested in cultural history or outdoor activities.
Kurija Janković: Architecture and Hotel
Kurija Janković in Kapela Dvor was built in the 19th century in the restrained Historicist style and is protected as a cultural monument. It was restored as a tourist and educational centre and officially opened. Its architectural style, protected status and restoration give the building both an architectural and a cultural-educational dimension.
Kurija has 18 comfortable double rooms. The hotel restaurant serves guests a traditional breakfast from the Slavonia-Podravina region, prepared exclusively with locally produced ingredients. A stay at Kurija is therefore paired with a breakfast whose regional origin and ingredients are clearly specified.
Church and Folklore in Lukač
The Church of St Luke the Evangelist in Lukač dates from 1771. Its age can therefore be placed in the second half of the 18th century, whereas Kurija Janković dates from the 19th century. Visitors who include both buildings in their trip can compare two different historical periods.
Another cultural feature is the second folklore showcase, “Slavonija u srcu Dugog Sela”. It took place in Dugo Selo Lukačko under the patronage of Lukač Municipality. The historic buildings and the folklore event thus offer different cultural highlights in the municipality.
The Drava and Cycling Routes
The Mura-Drava Regional Park also extends into the territory of Lukač Municipality and has had biosphere reserve status since 11 July 2012. The cross-border Mura-Drava-Drau Biosphere Reserve, spanning five countries, has existed since 15 September 2021. In the area of Lukač Municipality, the Drava offers opportunities for fishing and various forms of recreational tourism.
For cycle tourists, the “Drava circle” circular route offers specific points of reference: it passes through the settlement of Lukač and is 96 km long. Most of it runs over asphalt; a short section follows a dam along the Drava, away from paved roads. The route length and surface help with planning. Check current route and surface conditions before setting off.
The Lukač–Budakovac cycling route has been reconstructed and signposted and starts in Lukač. It offers another named reference for cycling plans alongside the 96 km circular route. The two routes differ in the relevant points of reference described here: for the “Drava circle”, the circular route length and surfaces are specified; for Lukač–Budakovac, the starting point in Lukač, reconstruction and signposting are specified.
