Jankovac: Park Forest and Educational Trails

Jankovac Park Forest was designated a protected park forest in 1955. It lies in a mountain valley on the northern slopes of Papuk, at 475 meters above sea level, and is surrounded by a centuries-old beech forest. Sinkholes, springs and caves are among the karst features of the park forest. For nature enthusiasts, the forest and karst are two clearly distinct highlights.

The Grofova educational trail runs alongside the Jankovac mountain lodge, the Jankovac lakes and Skakavac Waterfall. Information boards along the route describe natural and historical and cultural features. This brings nature and cultural history together on the same trail. The Grofova educational trail is suitable for everyone, especially schoolchildren, who can learn about the area's values under expert guidance. The Jankovac–Klak educational hiking trail is intended for leisure walkers and hikers. It has multilingual information boards; content in German, English and Hungarian is available via QR codes.

Access to Jankovac Park Forest is open Monday to Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and on weekends and public holidays from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Check the schedule before you travel.

Klak Fortress near Slatinski Drenovac

The medieval Klak Fortress lies south of Slatinski Drenovac at 305 meters above sea level, above the gorge of the Jankovački potok stream. The complex has two circular towers of unequal size and an irregularly shaped well in the middle of its courtyard. Its walls are preserved to a height of 6 to 9 meters. Three features are especially notable for understanding its architecture: the difference in size between the circular towers, the preserved wall height and the courtyard well.

At the western entrance to Čačinci, below Mount Vranovac, lie the Čačinci ponds. They consist of two fishing ponds with abundant fish stocks and are managed by the ŠRU “Klen” fishing club. The focus here is on two managed fishing ponds, while Jankovac is characterized by its forest, karst and educational trails.

Events are also among the local attractions. The medieval knights' tournament in Slatinski Drenovac takes place every year. The “Za bakinim stolom” Bread Days in Čačinci are among the destination's major events; “Ribička večer” is also a tourism event in Čačinci. Check specific dates in advance for your travel period.
