When looking for a hotel in Lopar, you can start by considering which themes you want to shape your stay: Rajska plaža, geological features, archaeological traces, or cycling and hiking trails. The range of attractions extends from beach life to natural and cultural heritage, giving you practical ideas for planning your trip.

Beach and Boat Trips

Rajska plaža is Lopar’s largest and best-known sandy beach, stretching 1.5 kilometres. Activities include swimming, beach volleyball and tennis, as well as pedal boats, kayaks, SUP boards, jet skis, banana boat rides and the Aquagan water slides. Alongside spending time at the beach, you can also enjoy sports and a variety of water activities.

Lopar offers daily half-day glass-bottom boat trips in the waters around the town, as well as to Goli otok and Grgur. Such a trip offers an alternative to beach life: when planning your day, you can weigh up time at the beach against a half-day glass-bottom boat excursion.

Protected Landscape and Geology

The Lopar Significant Landscape is a protected area. Geology is also the focus of the Lopar Geological Garden. Its 50 marked geological points feature fossils, unusually shaped rocks and geological profiles. The garden brings together several specific aspects of Earth’s history in a single visit, without requiring a particular route or length of stay.

Archaeological Traces and Educational Trails

In Lopar, the Epario educational trail is part of the Rab Archaeological (T)races project. The project presents cultural heritage through 34 information points and educational trails totalling around 40 kilometres, covering Lopar and neighbouring parts of the island of Rab. Epario is the educational trail in Lopar; the roughly 40 kilometres refer to the wider network across several parts of the island. This distinction helps clarify the difference between the local trail and the scope of the project as a whole.

The project’s mobile app works offline and is intended for walkers, cyclists and hikers. Check whether the app is available before your trip. The archaeological site of Podšilo is also home to a partially preserved Roman pottery kiln.

The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary stands near Lopar’s ferry port. It is mentioned in 14th-century records and contains a late Romanesque wooden relief from the same century. Tourists and pilgrims visit the church. Its mention in the records and the age of the relief are two distinct historical points of interest.

Culture and Local Cuisine

The Čovik i more Interpretation Center covers four themes in its exhibition rooms: history, maritime travel and fishing, island life, and traditional cuisine. Admission is free for all visitors, and the center is open year-round. Check the opening arrangements before your trip so you can plan your visit accordingly.

Pumidorfest is a Lopar food festival featuring dishes made with local tomatoes and a salsa-making competition for tourists. Dates and programme may change. If the festival is part of your travel plans, check the specific event dates in advance.

Cycling Route and Planning Your Time

Lopar MTB 1 is a moderately difficult mountain bike route. It is 26.2 kilometres long, involves 468 metres of elevation gain and has an estimated duration of 2 hours and 45 minutes. On the return to Lopar, the route follows the Premužić Trail and offers a view of the Velebit Channel. The estimated riding time can help you set aside a dedicated block of time for this trip; it is not a fixed duration for every ride. Trail conditions can change, so check the latest conditions before setting out.
