Podgrađe brings together a forest nature trail, cycling routes and historic sites with the Bosut river landscape. If you are looking for a hotel for a stay in Podgrađe, these themes can help you plan: you can focus on walks, cycling or culture and explore the sites accordingly. Podgrađe is also close to the state border with Serbia.

Church and archaeological site

The Church of Saints Simon and Jude Thaddeus in Podgrađe dates from 1829. About 3 km northeast of the village, on the left bank of the Bosut, lies the protected archaeological site of Grac–Sv. Lovro. It contains the remains of a medieval fortress, settlement, parish and market town. Historical sources document the site from 1387/88 to 1528. The historical record therefore spans from medieval references to the church’s construction in the 19th century.

Forest nature trail and cycling

The “Putem žira” forest nature trail in Podgrađe is suitable for walking and jogging. Information boards and signposts are among its features, along with bird nesting boxes and a covered rest area. The trail passes through stands of pedunculate oaks, field ashes, hornbeams, lindens and black locusts. It combines the opportunity to get around on foot with information along the way and a sheltered place to rest.

A 39 km trekking/gravel cycling loop starts and ends in Nijemci. It crosses a bridge over the Bosut to Podgrađe and then follows the river upstream. The calls of numerous birds can be heard along this section. After crossing a bridge, the “Šumama Srijema” cycling route leads into the settlement of Podgrađe. Staro groblje is the fourth point on the cycling route in Podgrađe.

The Bosut and Spačva region

Carp, zander and pike are among the fish species found in the Bosut and Spačva region. The Bosut and Spačva rivers are considered rich in fish and popular with sport anglers. This regional context adds another connection to the river landscape alongside the local cycling and forest themes.
