Nüziders can be explored through a range of interests: local history encompasses churches and buildings from several periods, alongside a biotope, an art trail and sports facilities. If you are looking for a hotel in Nüziders, these themes can help you shape your stay around culture, nature or activity. They offer different starting points for planning your trip.

Culture and Architectural History

Sonnenberg Castle was not rebuilt; parts of the ruins remain to this day. Villa Dressel dates from another period of architecture: it was built in 1904 and combines Heimatstil and Art Nouveau. At the same time, it is a visible expression of the industrial Gründerzeit in Nüziders around 1900.

St. Viner Church is an outstanding architectural monument in Nüziders and is among the oldest churches in Vorarlberg. Its first church building is dated to the 9th or 10th century. The present parish church was built mainly in the 1820s and stands on older foundations that date back at least to the Gothic period. A parish church in Nüziders is first mentioned in 881. The area around Nüziders was already a favorable place for settlement in prehistoric times.

The Baroque chapel in Laz, with its small bell tower, was built in 1672. Another testament to local history is the former Schwarzer Adler inn: it is one of the few buildings in Nüziders to have survived the village fire of 1865 and is a listed monument.

The buildings reflect different forms of architectural heritage: parts of the ruins of Sonnenberg Castle remain, the present parish church stands on older foundations, and Villa Dressel combines two architectural styles. This brings together different aspects of architectural history, from surviving parts of a ruin to a villa built in 1904.

Nature and Trails

A distinctive natural feature is the Hangender Stein Nüziders biotope, covering an area of 13.7 hectares. Alongside the historic buildings, it offers another thematic focus for planning your trip.

The Alpine Art Muttersberg circular trail lies above Nüziders and Bludenz. Eight artists have created works along the trail. The Bludenz–Nüziders Panorama Trail, by contrast, is all about the route itself: it is an easy walking or hiking trail that takes 1 hour and 45 minutes.

The two trails can be distinguished by their different focuses: Alpine Art combines the circular route with works of art, while the Panorama Trail’s accessibility and duration are practical points to consider when planning. If you plan to follow a specific route, check the latest route information in advance.

Sports

In summer, the skate area in Nüziders serves as a skatepark. Its features include a quarter pipe, a pyramid or small fun box, a grind rail and an ollie box. Beach volleyball matches and beach soccer games can be played on the beach volleyball court.

The sports facilities offer different activities: the skate area focuses on skate features, while the beach volleyball court is for two ball sports. If you plan to visit the skate area, take its seasonal use into account and check the latest information in advance.
