Brand: Walser History and Nature Experiences
Accommodation in Brand
Brand combines its identity as a Walser settlement with a striking natural landmark; the Brandnertal adds nature and recreation trails. When planning a stay, you can weigh these differences to decide whether cultural history, nature observation or outdoor activities should be the focus.
Walser History and Parish Church
Brand is a Walser settlement. One specific historical landmark is the Parish Church of the Assumption of Mary: after 27 years of construction, Chur Auxiliary Bishop Stephan Tschuggli consecrated the church in 1507. The settlement’s history and the dated church consecration shed light on different historical aspects: one concerns the place’s cultural identity, the other the construction and consecration of a specific church.
Kesselfall and Winter Walk
Kesselfall is a natural landmark in Brand. There, the Alvierbach plunges through a gorge about 40 m deep. The short Kesselfall loop is a winter walk from Brand to Kesselfall and back to the PalĂĽdbahn. This identifies both Brand as the starting point and the PalĂĽdbahn as the return point for planning your tour. Snow and ice can change trail conditions; check them before setting out.
Nature Trails and Wildlife Watching
The NatursprĂĽnge Trail in the Brandnertal starts at the Dorfbahn Brand. Along eleven interactive stations, it playfully introduces visitors to the alpine forest, water and its inhabitants. The barefoot trail near the Parpfienzalpe in Brand has a different focus: on this 2.55 km themed trail, you can experience forest soil, marshland, meadows, stones and spring water barefoot. The Dorfbahn takes visitors to the starting point in just a few minutes. While the NatursprĂĽnge Trail shares knowledge at its stations, the barefoot trail offers an immediate experience of different surfaces and water.
On the animal experience trail in Brand, you can observe goats, pigs, chickens and other local animals at close range. The circular trail along the Alvierbach is about 1 km long. In a direct comparison of distances, it is shorter than the 2.55 km barefoot trail; it also focuses on wildlife watching rather than experiencing different surfaces.
Climbing and Other Activities
The Brandnertal climbing park offers a course for children aged three and up. The approach to the Kellenegg via ferrata leads from Brand town centre, past the Brandnertal climbing park, along the Kellenegg hiking trail to the start. This means that a course with a specified minimum age and a particular route to the via ferrata are available as different climbing options.
The Brandnertal also has an 18-hole golf course in an alpine setting. The Culinary Gourmet Tour in Brand starts at the Dorfbahn’s valley station in Brand. Seasonal programme details may change, so check them before planning. In addition to history, nature trails and climbing, a golf course and a culinary tour are further options for shaping your stay in the Brandnertal.
