Hiking Trails and Activities

The Arnikaweg is one of the hiking trails in Oberkappel. A half-day hike leads into the Bärnloch protected landscape area and includes a picturesque stretch along the Osterbach stream. The half-day hike gives you a clear time frame for planning your day; Bärnloch and the Osterbach also give the route a specific landscape setting.

The Kneipp and Fitness Trail in the Rannatal is a 6.5-kilometre nature trail around the Ranna Reservoir and has 16 stations. “Fit & Fun am Rannastausee” is a motor skills and exercise trail in Oberkappel with 12 motor skills stations. The Kneipp and Forest Wonders Trail runs along the Ranna Reservoir and has six stations for the arms, legs and the whole body. The trails can be distinguished by different features: for the Rannatal trail, the length and number of stations are specified; for “Fit & Fun,” the motor skills stations; and for the Forest Wonders Trail, the parts of the body targeted. Places by the Water and Outdoor Pool

Lake Rannasee near Oberkappel has a water surface area of 20 hectares. Pedal boats are available for hire at Ranna bathing lake; there is also a water slide and a children’s playground. Oberkappel Parish Church

Oberkappel Parish Church has a Gothic side chapel with a net rib vault. In this type of vault, the ribs form a net-like pattern. The apse of the main church contains the large Secco fresco “Resurrection of the Dead.” An apse is a distinctive architectural feature at the end of a church; “Secco” refers to painting on dry plaster. Bishop Franz Zauner consecrated the church on 15 August 1956. The parish church thus brings together a historic consecration date, a specific type of vault and a painting in a precisely identified location.

Arriving by Train

Rohrbach station on the Mühlkreisbahn is the nearest Austrian railway station to Oberkappel. If you are travelling by train, check the current timetable before departure, as rail connections may change.
