Pucking: Way of St. James, R4 and Pucking Lake
Accommodation in Pucking
There are several different themes to choose from for a trip to Pucking: routes for pilgrims and cyclists, paths for hiking and running, Pucking Lake and local cultural sites. The rural surroundings are also part of the municipality’s character. If you are looking for a hotel, it helps to first decide which theme you want to shape your stay.
Routes and paths for active trips
The Way of St. James passes through Pucking and offers a clear pilgrimage connection. The Traun Riverside Cycle Route R4 also passes through the municipality; the Traun Cycle Route R4 is signposted as part of Upper Austria’s regional cycle route network. This gives you two distinct route themes to consider when planning your trip: pilgrimage on the Way of St. James and cycling on the R4. Pucking also has paths for hiking, Nordic walking and running. These activities offer further ways to shape your stay, alongside the routes.
Pucking Lake and the rural surroundings
Pucking is a rural municipality surrounded by meadows, fields and forests. Pucking Lake was formed when a gravel pit created during construction of the A25—the Wels motorway between the Haid and Wels interchanges—filled with water. Its origins offer a distinct connection to the development of the local landscape.
The Pucking Vintage Car Meeting takes place on the grounds by Pucking Lake every two years. Dates may vary. If the event is the deciding factor for your trip, plan around the specific event date.
Culture, pilgrimage and equestrian activities
The sculpture park near the Traun-Pucking power station was established in 2019 and officially opened during the municipal festival “Art & Culture on the Traun.” This makes an art project with a clear historical connection part of Pucking’s cultural offerings. Here in Pucking, the landscape and culture each have a different connection to technical infrastructure: the lake was formed during construction of the A25, while the sculpture park is located by the Traun-Pucking power station.
The Pilgrimage Church of St. Leonhard is in Pucking. A prior appointment at the parish office is required for pilgrimages or visits; arrange your appointment directly with the office in advance. The Leonhardi Ride is one of the rural traditions in Pucking’s parish life. In this part of the village, religious and rural cultural connections come together, although they do not depend on the same reason for visiting.
For equestrian activities, the St. Leonhard Riding Stable in Pucking is one option. If you are planning to include this, check the specific options directly with the stable in advance.
Choose your hotel based on the reason for your trip
If you are travelling to the vintage car meeting, the event date is the first thing to check; for a pilgrimage or church visit, arranging an appointment is part of the planning.
