Wallern an der Trattnach can be explored through a range of themes: nature and local history come together along several trails, while the museum and churches offer insights into historic village life and religious development. When planning your stay, you can first decide whether you would prefer to spend time outdoors, explore cultural history or combine both. Each stop has its own focus.

Trails for nature and local history

The Trattnachtal educational trail runs from Wallern along the Trattnach towards Bad Schallerbach. The 2.5-kilometre route has 22 information boards at 11 stops. They explain ecological connections and the region’s wildlife and plant life. The trail is illuminated and is also suitable for evening walks; check before your visit whether this feature is available for your dates.

The Gründungsweg Wallern offers a different focus: this circular trail with 8 stops presents the history of the municipality’s founding and places particular emphasis on ecumenism. Unlike the Trattnachtal educational trail, it focuses on local history and interaction between denominations, while the educational trail covers nature-related topics. The routes also differ in character: the Gründungsweg is circular, while the educational trail follows the Trattnach towards Bad Schallerbach.

For routes with different descriptions, the Keine-Sorgen-Weg and the Easyweg offer different options. The Keine-Sorgen-Weg is described as almost flat and particularly suitable for beginners. The Easyweg is a varied, gently undulating loop.

Museum, churches and local history

The Wallern Local History Museum collects and displays local cultural artefacts and presents life in the historic village community. Two rooms showcase 19th-century rural domestic culture, including painted furniture and household items. A separate room documents the development of the two denominations in Wallern. Everyday life and religious development thus feature as distinct aspects of local history.

The Dreieinigkeitskirche was built between 1851 and 1853 to replace an older prayer house dating from 1784, which had fallen into disrepair. It was consecrated on 1 November 1852. Its original appearance was preserved during restorations in 2004 and 2007. Services are held every Sunday and public holiday at 9:00 a.m.; check the times again before your trip.

According to legend, three Frenchmen are buried at this site.
