Bad Gams: Wine Trails, Ceramics and Landscape
Accommodation in Bad Gams
Bad Gams offers a variety of ways to enjoy a stay: regional tastings, trails along the Gamsbach, viewpoints and a vibrant craft tradition. The parish church and the Mill Museum also offer insights into the history of the town.
Pumpkin Seed Oil, Vinegar and Schilcher
At Farmer-Rabensteiner’s farm oil press, the offering includes a guided tour with a welcome drink. There is also a tasting of Styrian pumpkin seed oil and pumpkin seeds in more than 40 flavors. In the vinegar cellar at the same business, an expert explanation offers insight into vinegar production; the guided tour includes tastings of more than 80 types of vinegar. If you would like to discover various regional specialties, these are two distinct tasting experiences with different focuses.
You can find Schilcher at the Bad Gams Schilcherkeller, where wine from 20 winegrowers in the region is available. The Bad Gams Schilcherkellerweg also offers the opportunity to explore regional wine cellars and taste Schilcher. The Pumpkin Walking Loop offers a different perspective on pumpkins and pumpkin seed oil: Information boards line the route, and there is also a farm oil mill and an herb garden. The Schilcherkellerweg is all about wine cellars and Schilcher, while the Pumpkin Walking Loop focuses on pumpkins, oil and herbs.
Walking Trails, Mountain Views and Vistas
The stroller-accessible Energy Walking Trail starts in the town center, follows the Gamsbach and ends at a quarry. For anyone walking with a stroller, this route description provides a specific point of reference. The Wolfgangiweg, Ă–AV Trail 12, passes the Wolfgangikirche at an elevation of 725 meters and offers views of the Sulm and LaĂźnitz valleys. The Bad Gams Rosenkogelweg No. 22 also runs along the Gamsbach, but leads to the Mendlalm and the summit cross on the Rosenkogel.
The Weinbergwarte is another destination for far-reaching views: From there, the panorama extends from the Koralpe to the Slovenian border and the Graz Basin. This offers a choice of different landscape impressions—from the trail along the Gamsbach and views of two valleys to the vista from the lookout tower.
Church, Ceramics and Milling History
Bad Gams Parish Church was first mentioned in an official document in 1382. It is dedicated to Saint Bartholomew and is a listed monument. These historical details give a visit to the church a clear connection to the town’s history. Ceramics are also part of the local tradition: ceramics have been made in Bad Gams for more than 100 years.
The Mill Museum in Bad Gams explores the history of milling and includes hundreds of mills as well as centuries-old objects. Its collection includes a StanglmĂĽhle from the GroĂźklein area, dated to around 1785. If you plan to visit the museum, check in advance for current visiting options and whether the StanglmĂĽhle is currently on display.
A Stay by the Natural Swimming Lake
The GamsBad leisure and event center covers 4.3 hectares and includes a natural swimming lake and extensive sunbathing lawns. This offers a different focus from tastings, culture and trails: the lake and sunbathing lawns are the main features of the site.
