Klingfurth: Hiking, E-Biking and Culture
Accommodation in Klingfurth
There are three different ways to discover Klingfurth: hiking, e-biking and culture. One stage of the Rosalia circular hiking trail ends in the village, the KulTour e-bike route passes through it, and the Walpersbach circular hiking trail (WA 1) runs through the districts of Stupfenreith and Klingfurth. Other attractions include the Church of the Holy Cross and the Klingfurth war memorial. This mix makes the specific differences clear when planning your trip: a hiking stage with an exact stated distance, an e-bike circuit and cultural sites, each with its own character.
Hiking around Klingfurth
The stage of the Rosalia circular hiking trail from Eichbüchl to Klingfurth is 26.8 kilometres long. It passes through forests and vineyards and reaches Am Bener as its highest point. In Klingfurth, the stage ends at Pension Hendling. Its length, scenery, highest point and destination give you several clear points of reference for assessing this tour. If you compare the route with other activities, bear in mind that the 26.8 kilometres describe the stage from Eichbüchl to Klingfurth—not just the section immediately around the village.
Another hiking landmark is the Harrathof/Grafengrab viewpoint on the Walpersbach circular hiking trail (WA 1). This trail runs through the districts of Stupfenreith and Klingfurth. You can therefore use the viewpoint and the route of WA 1 as separate reference points for planning a hike, distinct from the Rosalia circular hiking trail stage. While the Rosalia stage is defined by its length, scenery and endpoint, WA 1 connects the named viewpoint with the two districts. These differences help you match each description to the relevant tour-planning questions.
For the stage from Klingfurth to Pitten, a VOR bus service connects Wiener Neustadt with Klingfurth. If you use this connection to plan your trip, check the current timetable before setting out to make sure it suits your chosen stage.
Exploring by e-bike
KulTour is an e-bike route that runs along the Leitha River and at the foot of the Rosalia Mountains. From Katzelsdorf, it passes through Bad Erlach, Walpersbach, Klingfurth, Pitten and Lanzenkirchen before returning to Katzelsdorf. Klingfurth is therefore a stop on a route that starts and ends in Katzelsdorf. Most of the route is relatively flat; wide-open views across fields to the Alps on the horizon often come into view. Compared with the Rosalia stage, this route is defined by its circuit, its path along the Leitha and its open views across the fields, while the hiking stage is described in terms of its 26.8 kilometres, forests and vineyards.
Church and war memorial
The Church of the Holy Cross in Klingfurth was consecrated in July 1988. The mural by Manfred Haspel inside the church depicts the Risen Christ, Klingfurth and its surroundings, the family, and wildlife. Religious, local, family and nature-related themes are therefore brought together in the mural.
The Klingfurth war memorial offers a different perspective: it consists of a large piece of limestone from Hartberg in Breitenbuch, a seated soldier figure made of sandstone and a war bomb beside it. The different materials and forms give the memorial a distinct appearance that can be understood from its individual components.
