Gänserndorf lies in the fertile Marchfeld and is a starting point for excursions to the Danube-Auen. The town itself also offers a range of options for planning your day: nature and trails, activities focused on movement, and cultural sites. The two walking trails differ in length and design; the pump track and adventure park each offer something different.

Landscape and Trails

The landscape park is an 83,000 m² restored natural area at the confluence of the Sulzgraben and Weidenbach streams, created in 2006. An observation tower offers views across the surrounding nature. One of the two ponds is home to Gänserndorf geese and numerous other waterbirds. Restored terrain, views and birdlife together define the character of the park.

The Gänsemarsch is an approximately 5 km walking trail through Gänserndorf, from the town hall via the landscape park back to the market square. At around 5 km, it is longer than the 3.7 km Fuchsenwald adventure trail. The latter is a circular route that passes information boards, puzzles, questions and play stations. The routes therefore differ both in length and in design.

There are two starting points for the adventure trail: at the corner of Siebenbrunnerstraße and Fuchsenwaldstraße, by the animal trail, and on Föhrenweg, near house number 50, by the plant trail. When planning the circular route, you can choose where to begin based on these two signposted points.

Outdoor Activities

The Gänserndorf adventure park offers nature and action across 15 hectares of woodland and meadows. Activities include a woodland climbing park and a high ropes course for children aged six and over. The “Big Adventure” ticket also includes archery at 3D animal targets. Climbing and archery are thus two distinct activities offered by the park.

The pump track has 155 metres of riding surface and was designed for fans of bicycles, scooters, roller skates and skateboards. It is free to use every day from 6:00 am to 10:00 pm and is lit in the evening. Three lockable bicycle boxes are available to rent at the bus station on Hans-Kudlich-Gasse, providing secure, weather-protected bicycle storage.

Special Places and Culture

The inhalatorium is a wooden pavilion where brine water drips over brushwood, enriching the air with salt. The focus here is not on movement, but on the salt-laden air. This gives the pavilion a different focus from the trails and sports activities.

The parish church of the Holy Guardian Angels combines a building that is late Romanesque at its core with a Gothic choir. A plague column featuring a Baroque Pietà has stood in front of the church since 1964. On 9 September 2009, the 2.9-metre-high Piefke monument was unveiled in front of the Gänserndorf public library. It is a sound installation made of Corten steel by Christoph Theiler. Alongside nature and activities, the church, plague column and monument add a cultural dimension to your stay.
