Lipizach lies on the northern slope of the eastern Sattnitz, above Ebenthal. Its hillside location, local field names and two hikes that include Lipizach in their routes provide concrete starting points for planning a trip. Bus route 52, which runs at irregular intervals, is also relevant for getting there; a New Year’s singing event is scheduled for December 2026.

Hillside Location and Settlement Pattern

On the edge of the plateau of the eastern Sattnitz, Lipizach lies in an amphitheatrically shaped landslide niche on the northern slope, above Ebenthal. Viewed from the west, the hillside buildings shape its appearance. Newer residential areas developed northward from Radsberger Straße; the favorable sunshine and views encouraged this development. For a clearer understanding of the area, it is helpful to distinguish these aspects: the landslide niche describes the landform, the hillside buildings the impression from the west, and Radsberger Straße the connection to the newer northern residential development.

Field Names: Water, Woodlands and Paths

The field names refer to different features. Bvatǝ denotes marshy or swampy ground with a small pond; Tǝršala, a water source with a small pipe. Both names relate to water, but differ in whether the focus is ground with a pond or a water source. Hmajna refers to wooded areas that were presumably once common land belonging to the village residents, while Liǝšje names a place with hazel bushes and hazelnuts. Ķvance combines the ideas of ascent and descent with the road leading uphill from Ebenthal and mountain paths. Vovjǝ pǝķu, by contrast, refers to a particular especially steep section of the old Radsberger Straße. Thus, general references to terrain and routes sit alongside names for specific plants, water sources and a particularly steep stretch of road.

Hiking Trails and Different Distance Details

The “Radsberg - North Circuit” circular hiking trail passes through the Lipizach waypoint. After reaching the village, the trail runs for about 300 m northwest along the L 100C regional road. Another hike is called “Ebenthal - Lipizach/Lipica - Predigtstuhl - Klagenfurt” and reaches Lipizach after 4.5 km. The two figures refer to different things: for the North Circuit, about 300 m is the section along the regional road after Lipizach; for the other hike, 4.5 km is the distance to the village. When comparing them, check whether a figure describes a section of trail after the waypoint or the distance to Lipizach.
