Jennersdorf: Nature, Culture and Special Experiences

From the observation tower of Neuhaus Castle ruins, the view stretches across the Neuhaus hills and Slovenia to Tabor and Kapfenstein castles, as well as the Styrian hill country. Hiking trails, water activities and cultural attractions add further highlights. Hiking, viewpoints and experiences on the Raab

The region around Jennersdorf has numerous hiking trails through gently rolling countryside. The Raab-Örség-Goričko Nature Park has several themed trails and adventure tours. Nature park guides explain the special features of the Raab region along the way. Guided hikes also lead to the tripoint where Austria, Hungary and Slovenia meet. Guided canoe tours are available on the Raab. There are different ways to get out and about: a guided hike to a landmark where three countries meet, or a tour on the river.

Neuhaus Castle ruins in Klausenbach also combine a specific destination with expansive views. They can be reached from the village of Neuhaus via a footpath; from the observation tower, the view stretches across the Neuhaus hills and Slovenia to the castles mentioned above and the Styrian hill country. The Uhudler quarter on Hochkogel offers a different landscape: it lies on the southern slope, around two kilometres above Eltendorf. Its old wine cellars are nestled idyllically into the hillside and invite you to relax and linger.

Swimming and activities on the water

Königsdorf natural swimming lake offers clean, chlorine-free water for swimming and relaxation. Pedal boats and stand-up paddleboarding add to the water activities, and there is also an adventure playground. Jennersdorf outdoor pool has spacious parking for bicycles and cars, a children's playground and two beach volleyball courts. The destinations therefore differ in their additional facilities: at the natural swimming lake, you can enjoy activities on the water as well as swimming, while the outdoor pool offers beach volleyball courts and parking.

Castles, art and history

Tabor Castle is considered the oldest building still standing in Jennersdorf district. In summer, the castle courtyard is used for opera performances. The studio houses in the artists' village of Neumarkt an der Raab have been part of cultural history for more than 50 years. Art courses led by internationally renowned artists are held there as part of the Summer Academy. The two places offer different cultural experiences: a summer opera performance in the castle courtyard or art courses as part of the Summer Academy.

The Maria Heimsuchung pilgrimage church is located in Maria Bild. It houses a devotional image based on a copy of the Marian image from Máriapócs in eastern Hungary. For travellers interested in pilgrimage and religious tradition, this image is a specific point of interest. The 1664 memorial room in the Kreuzstadel Museum contains images, documents and exhibits commemorating the historic battle against the Ottomans in 1664.

In Mogersdorf, the Peace Trail is an easy circular route leading to Schlösslberg. Decades of dedication, along with national and international events and activities, have transformed the historic battlefield on Schlösslberg into a place of international understanding and peace. The trail and memorial site offer a way to explore the history of Schlösslberg and its significance as a place of peace.

A look inside Jost Mill

Tours at Jost Mill can cover types of grain and flour, their identification and uses, as well as dietary tips; cooking and baking courses may also be available. From April onwards, traditional crafts and culinary delights are offered there on the first Sunday of every month.
