Jalaun district is surrounded by the three rivers Yamuna, Betwa and Pahuj. Kalpi brings together several aspects of the destination: historical and religious traditions, named visitor attractions, handmade paper and local trade. Fort Rampura offers a different focus, with defensive architecture, a historical collection and rural scenery.

River landscape and orientation

Jalaun district is surrounded by the Yamuna, Betwa and Pahuj rivers. Pachnada is described as a destination at the confluence of five rivers. The two river references are distinct: the three rivers describe the district’s location, while Pachnada refers to a specific confluence. This gives you both a broad sense of the landscape and a clearly defined theme for planning your trip.

Kalpi: Traditions, architecture and crafts

Kalpi is considered the birthplace of Ved Vyas. This historical and religious association gives the town an additional cultural connection alongside its architectural landmarks. Visitor attractions in Kalpi include the Vyas Temple and Lanka Minar. Kali Haveli, Birbal’s Rang Mahal and the Khankah, the Dargah of Sayyad Meer Tirmiji, are also among the town’s attractions.

Kalpi’s architectural heritage also includes the Chaurasi tomb of Lodhi Shah Badshah and a section of the fort wall with a round bastion tower. They represent two different architectural perspectives: a tomb and part of the defensive architecture.

Kalpi is also shaped by production and trade. Handmade paper is still produced here, and the city has been designated an industrial area by the Indian government. At the same time, Kalpi remains a centre of local trade, especially in grain, ghee and cotton. These economic activities add further dimensions to the town’s historical attractions.

Fort Rampura: Defences and collection

Fort Rampura is another historical highlight. The original fort was built on the edge of the Pahuj and is now in ruins; it still houses the family deity. Battlemented walls and a moat were intended to keep intruders out. The site houses maps, coins, armour and historically valuable documents dating back several centuries. Its defensive purpose, present state of ruin and collection offer different perspectives on the fort’s history. Fort Rampura is also considered a place where travellers can relax, unwind and discover a rural landscape.
