Discover Kohler: Design, Spa and Golf
Accommodation in Kohler
If you’re looking for hotels in Kohler, start by asking what will shape your trip: design and art, wellness or golf. These themes are reflected in the local visitor experiences and historical connections.
Design, Art and Industry
The Kohler Design Center is a three-story exhibition featuring innovative product design, technology, creative work and American history. Admission is free. Its themes connect design and technology with a look at history—a distinctive facet for anyone who doesn’t associate Kohler solely with golf or wellness.
The Arts/Industry Walking Tour features more than 50 sculptures and is available as a self-guided tour for visitors to the Village of Kohler. It offers an opportunity to explore the creativity that has emerged from the interplay of art and industry. The walk offers a different focus from the exhibition at the Design Center: here, the sculptures and artistic work in the village take center stage.
Two Tour Formats, Different Requirements
A guided factory tour is also among Kohler’s visitor experiences. It covers three miles and starts at the Kohler Design Center. Unlike the self-guided Arts/Industry Walking Tour, the guided factory tour requires advance registration, according to the official tour information; tours are offered in limited numbers. If you’re planning to take this tour, check the official tour information in advance for registration and availability.
Wellness for Day Guests, Too
Day guests are welcome at Kohler Waters Spa, so staying overnight at the resort is not a requirement for a visit. The spa has a relaxation pool with a waterfall, as well as private treatment rooms for massages, facials and body treatments. Some services may have requirements. Check in advance whether these apply to the treatment you want.
Golf and Landscape
Blackwolf Run hosted the U.S. Women’s Open in 1998 and 2012. It is located in terrain shaped by glaciers in the Sheboygan River Valley. The Baths of Blackwolf Run is described as a 10-hole, par-3 course. The landscape is a distinctive feature in addition to the site’s tournament history.
Blackwolf Run’s sporting history includes hosting the U.S. Women’s Open twice: the tournament was held there in 1998 and 2012. These dates provide historical context for the site; they are distinct from the three golf experiences described today. Both the landscape and tournament history therefore offer concrete points of reference when choosing a focus for your trip.
Historical Connections in Kohler
The American Club is also part of the area’s history. Immigrants began living there in 1918. In 1978, The American Club was added to the National Register of Historic Places. These two dates mark different aspects of its history: its use as housing for immigrants and its later addition to the historic register.
If you’re planning a factory tour, check the registration requirements and limited availability; some spa services may have requirements.
