De Pere Between River Routes and History
Accommodation in De Pere
The area offers several points of interest: a regional route along the Fox River, a Riverwalk with named connections, opportunities to observe nature, a campus visit by prior appointment, as well as a museum, historic district, and seasonal offerings. This lets you choose a hotel based on the activities that are actually relevant to your trip.
River Routes and Nature
The 25-mile Fox River Trail runs through De Pere and connects several communities in Brown County. The De Pere Riverwalk, by contrast, specifically connects Voyageur Park, the Fox River Trail, and downtown De Pere with Locktender’s Island. These different scales can help with planning: the trail connects several communities, while the Riverwalk links named places in De Pere. The Riverwalk also gives the public access to views of the river and the opportunity to observe wildlife on the Fox River from 325 feet away from the natural shoreline.
The De Pere Dog Park is a fenced facility at 1400 Biotech Way. The open area covers six acres and includes agility and training equipment, as well as wooded trails. Dogs can socialize, explore the surroundings, and play there. In addition to river routes, a specific place for activities with your dog can therefore be one of the possible focal points of your stay.
Campus Visit and Local History
St. Norbert College is located on the Fox River in De Pere. Prospective students and their families can visit the campus by prior appointment; current students lead the in-person tours. If this is the reason for your trip, plan your visit with the required appointment.
Local history also offers several points of interest. Since it was purchased by the De Pere Historical Society in 1973, White Pillars Museum has served as a museum and a repository for the history of De Pere. The De Pere Historic Home District was built between 1836 and 1923 and runs parallel to the Fox River. Together, the museum and the district represent different historical connections: preserving the city’s history and a historic district with buildings spanning several decades. Celebrate De Pere was founded in 1990 to celebrate the city’s 100th anniversary.
Summer Market and Travel Planning
During the summer season, the Downtown De Pere Farmers Market features local vendors offering fresh fruit and vegetables, meat, cheese, bread and baked goods, specialty products, and handmade goods. You can factor a visit to the market into your seasonal travel plans. Dates and opening hours may change in future seasons; check the information for the period of your stay if you plan to visit.
