When looking for hotels in Crozet, you can plan your trip around your own interests: Crozet brings together local history and art with trails, parks, wine and agriculture. Practical differences can help you choose your activities: many historic buildings are visible, but not all properties are open to visitors; trail lengths and seasonal fruit offerings provide further guidance.

Local History and Art

The Crozet Historic District preserves an intact early-20th-century community with no equivalent elsewhere in Albemarle County. This rural farming community developed into a crossroads village after a C&O train stop named Crozet was established in 1876. The train stop thus marks a specific milestone in the area’s history.

Many buildings in the Historic District are visible from public roads, but many properties are privately owned and not open to the public. Crozet Artisan Depot is located in Crozet’s historic train depot, offering another connection to the area’s railroad history.

Parks and Trails

Western Park is a 39-acre public park in Crozet near Old Trail; it is partially developed. Some trail sections connect to the larger Crozet Trails Greenway system. The park also includes Lickinghole Creek and significant habitat for local and migratory birds.

The community-owned Claudius Crozet Park is a 22-acre green space with paved walkways, sports fields and courts, and a fenced dog park. The swimming pool is open year-round. The community-operated park has been in continuous operation since 1958.

The paved SK8Crozet Perimeter Trail is 0.85 miles long and encircles almost the entire Crozet Park grounds. It is suitable for walking, running, cycling, skateboarding and walking dogs. The Crozet Connector Greenway is 1.4 miles long, and the Lickinghole Creek Greenway is 1.6 miles long. The Perimeter Trail is therefore the shortest of the three routes with stated lengths.

Polo, Wine and Seasonal Offerings

Roseland Polo offers free polo matches for the public to watch every Sunday. Roseland Polo School offers year-round lessons for youth and adults, whether or not you have previous riding experience. Watching and taking lessons are therefore two different ways to experience polo. If you plan to attend a particular Sunday match, check the event calendar beforehand.

Crozet is located on the Monticello Wine Trail. At King Family Vineyards, a guided tour includes a tasting of eight estate-grown wines. Henley’s Orchard was founded by Joseph T. Henley Sr. in 1932 and remains family-owned; the family runs the operation. You can pick your own apples and peaches there or buy fruit that has already been picked. Fruit offerings are seasonal.

The Crozet Arts and Crafts Festival features ceramics, textiles, leather, glass, wood, metal, photography and art. The handmade works are available for purchase; offerings may vary from festival to festival.
