River Views and Open Space in Stephenville

The Bosque River Trail runs along the north bank of the Bosque River in Stephenville. Open and wooded sections alternate along the route, with river views along the way. The trail is suitable for walking, hiking and cycling. It brings together different landscapes and several ways to enjoy the outdoors.

Stephenville City Park offers a different point of reference: it covers 112 acres and is located not far from the central town square. Along the trail, the riverbank and changing sections shape the experience; at the park, its size and location near the town square are the key points of reference. Together, they offer two distinct kinds of open space.

Planetarium with a Full-Dome Experience

The Tarleton State University Planetarium in Stephenville offers an immersive, 86-seat full-dome experience with a Digistar projection system and 5.1 Dolby surround sound. Public digital presentations are held throughout the year, including children’s matinees and special holiday shows for the whole family. If you have a particular show in mind, check the schedule before your visit.

Biographies and Rodeo History

Two museums in Dublin tell different stories. The Ben Hogan Museum explores Ben Hogan’s childhood connection to his family’s blacksmith shop, as well as his later career as a golfer and golf equipment manufacturer. The Dublin Rodeo Heritage Museum focuses on the nearly forgotten history of the beginnings of modern rodeo and the cowboys and cowgirls who helped shape it. The Dublin Rodeo helped lay the foundations of modern rodeo sport. Together, these cultural themes span an athlete’s biography and the origins of rodeo.

Historic Buildings and Western Heritage

The William T. Miller Grist Mill is a two-story mill made of local stone, built in 1882 for William T. Miller (1846–1936). The Oldest Home in Stephenville is a Victorian house made of local limestone. Erath County Courthouse, meanwhile, is built in the Romanesque Revival style from rusticated limestone and red sandstone. The mill, house and courthouse represent different architectural forms and materials.

The Crow Opera House housed an auditorium for about 400 people. It hosted theater performances, dances and community events. Its varied uses offer a sense of how versatile the space was for community gatherings. The Cowboy Capital Walk of Fame celebrates the Western heritage that has helped shape Stephenville and Erath County.

Music and Events

The monthly Farmers and Artisan Market in downtown Stephenville features produce, crafts, live music, food vendors and family-friendly activities. The Stephenville Western Swing Festival honors Milton Brown with live music, dancing and a celebration of the city’s Texas musical heritage. The two events offer different highlights: the market brings together a variety of vendors and activities, while the festival centers on music and dance. Check event dates before your trip.
