Discover Ravenna
Accommodation in Ravenna
Ravenna combines outdoor recreation with notable landmarks from the city's history. This gives you different interests to consider when planning your trip: sports and nature trails on the one hand, and historic sites and an annual festival on the other. You can tailor your choices to the topics you want to explore during your stay.
Recreation in the Park and by the Water
City Park of Dreams covers 25 acres and has well-developed recreational facilities. These include baseball, softball and basketball, a playground, tennis courts, restrooms and pavilions. There is also a covered lodge and three shelters available for rent. If you plan to use one of these rental options, check current availability and terms in advance.
Lake Hodgson covers 180 acres and serves as a recreation area during designated months. Fishing and boat rentals are available at the lake. A permit for these activities must be obtained at the cabin building north of the lodge. Since permit procedures and seasonal availability may change, check these details before making plans.
Nature Trails and Activities
Havre's Woods Park has nature trails. Separately, the Vita-Parcours offers various obstacles and walking or running exercises along a path. City Park of Dreams has sports fields and courts, while the Vita-Parcours offers obstacles and walking or running exercises.
The PORTAGE Hike & Bike Trail offers cross-country skiing, biking, hiking, inline skating, nature and history exploration, and skateboarding. A section of the trail is managed by the City of Ravenna; this management responsibility may change.
Downtown History and Balloon A-Fair
The Ravenna Flagpole is 150 feet tall and has been a feature of the downtown landscape since 1893. It was restored and raised again downtown in October 2014. The former site of the Riddle Coach and Hearse Company is also marked downtown: faded remnants of a painted tree trunk on a brick building at the corner of Main Street and Prospect Street mark the spot.
The history of the Riddle Coach and Hearse Company dates back to 1831, when the business began under the name Clark Carriage Company. It is also connected to presidential history: William McKinley and Warren Harding were taken to their graves in the company's hearses. The flagpole and former company site offer different points of connection for anyone interested in Ravenna and its history.
Ravenna's annual Balloon A-Fair is a parade and festival featuring colorful hot-air balloons. If you want to include the event in your travel plans, check the latest dates and program details in advance, as both may vary.
