Discover Mantua
Accommodation in Mantua
Mantua offers several distinct starting points for planning your trip: a route through the historic center, a longer trail between Mantua and Garrettsville, a riverside area, and a seasonal market. There is also a preserved train depot and the designation as a Buckeye Trail Town. If you’re looking for a hotel in Mantua, you can begin your search by considering which of these aspects you’d like to shape your stay.
Trails in and between the communities
The Buckeye Trail passes directly through Mantua’s historic center along the “Mogadore Section.” The Headwaters Trail is different in format: It is 8.5 miles long, surfaced with limestone, and follows the former Cleveland-Mahoning Railroad line between Mantua and Garrettsville. It offers hikers, cyclists, and horseback riders a safe and scenic route. This gives you two distinct points of reference for planning: a trail that passes directly through Mantua’s historic center or a clearly measured, surfaced route between Mantua and Garrettsville. You can choose based on your preferred route and activity.
Depot and Trail Town designation
The Mantua Train Station is a preserved depot dating to 1856 that served the former Erie-Lackawanna Railroad. The Headwaters Trail connects with railroad history in a different way: it follows the former Cleveland-Mahoning Railroad line. The two references are distinct: one is a preserved depot, and the other is a railroad line that now forms the basis of a trail. In addition, the Village of Mantua was officially designated Ohio’s 10th Buckeye Trail Town in July 2018. This dated recognition adds a community-wide trail connection to the Buckeye Trail’s route through the town center.
Buchert Memorial Park by the river
Buchert Memorial Park encompasses a 12.7-acre recreational area right on the banks of the Upper Cuyahoga Scenic River; it also has a canoe launch. The park’s grounds and riverside location offer a different focus from the two trails, while the canoe launch provides a connection to paddling. The park is open from sunrise to sunset, except during community events and when the lodge is reserved. Keep these exceptions in mind and check the opening information before your visit.
Seasonal market and festival
Mantua’s Farmers & Makers Market takes place on the second Friday evening of each month from June through August. Items on offer include produce, baked goods, a range of crafts, coffee, honey, bread, jams, fruit, plants, and soaps; the selection may vary from week to week. If the market is important to your trip plans, check the specific dates before your visit. The Triple Trail Festival features hiking, paddling, food, and drinks. Since the program may change from one event to the next, check the dates and program for the relevant event if you’re planning your stay around it.
