Discover Floral Park
Accommodation in Floral Park
Floral Park offers a range of highlights to consider when planning a trip: an annual Street Fair, gardens and paths for outdoor activities, and places connected to local history. Whether you want your stay to focus on an event, getting active in green spaces, or historic markers, you can plan around these themes.
Street Fair and Recreation
The annual Street Fair takes place on Tulip Avenue. The festivities include live bands and DJs, face painting and balloon art, as well as food and outdoor seating. Belmont Park Starting Gate is also part of the event. Since the program may vary from year to year, check the details for the relevant year if you are traveling for the Street Fair. This lets you factor the event into your itinerary without assuming that the same activities are offered every year.
There is a clear rule for using the Floral Park Recreation Center and pool: only residents of the Incorporated Village of Floral Park may use these facilities, and a Village of Floral Park Leisure Pass is also required. Keep this requirement in mind if you are considering the Recreation Center or pool as part of your trip.
Gardens and Historic Places
Heritage Park was created on a 7,398-square-foot triangular plot across from Village Hall on Floral Boulevard. Its pavilion is a largely faithful replica of the pagoda or pavilion on the former estate of John Lewis Childs. Its design thus refers to the history of the estate and its connection to Childs. The gardens at Heritage Park offer visitors to the Village of Floral Park a place to relax and unwind.
Centennial Gardens & Bird Sanctuary has a ½-mile path for walking and jogging. The wildflower meadow measures more than 100 feet in both length and width. The path and meadow offer different experiences: the path provides a defined route for exercise, while the meadow is a distinct landscape feature of the gardens. When planning your time outdoors, you can choose between a walk or jog and spending time by the meadow.
Historic Markers in Floral Park
A self-guided tour focuses on historic markers in Floral Park and includes information about markers 1 through 11. Number 8 covers the Vanderbilt Cup Race. The numbering may be revised in the future, so check the latest tour information before setting out. This lets you understand the markers by their individual topics rather than viewing the tour only as a route.
Another detail of local history is the home of the Baylis Bailey family, which still stands in its original location in Floral Park. The town’s recreational history also has a specific date: in 1962, a separate swimming pool was added to the heavily used recreation area in Floral Park.
The main reasons to visit are easy to distinguish when planning your trip: the Street Fair makes the event date relevant; the path in Centennial Gardens & Bird Sanctuary is suited to walking or jogging, while the pavilion and historic markers offer a connection to local history. The Recreation Center and pool should be considered separately, as their use is subject to the residency rule and Leisure Pass requirement.
