A waterfall, a clear swimming lake, and scenic cliffs define France Park. There are also trails along the Wabash and a historic rail corridor, as well as museums, an Italianate-style house, and the Dentzel Carousel. This variety offers different ways to experience Cass County: outdoors by the water, along a trail, or through the history of individual places and collections.

Water, Wildlife, and Trails

At France Park, you can swim and scuba dive in a long-closed quarry. The park also has a waterfall, a clear swimming lake, and scenic cliffs. Swimming-area status may change seasonally or temporarily, so check conditions before your visit. On land, the park offers five to seven miles of hiking and biking trails. You can focus your stay on activities in the water or on trails through the landscape.

A 1.8-mile trail runs along the Wabash River at the Little Turtle Waterway. It offers views of the water and wildlife. The site also serves as an outdoor museum, telling the story of Logansport. There is also a public access site operated by the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, where watercraft can reach the Wabash River. Riverside trail, wildlife viewing, and river access all come together at this location.

The Panhandle Pathway: A Rail Corridor Turned Trail

The Panhandle Pathway is a 22-mile rail-trail through Pulaski and Cass counties in Indiana. It follows the historic Pennsylvania Railroad Line and passes through farmland and wooded areas. It also crosses the Tippecanoe River. The route’s former use as a rail line is part of its character, alongside its length.

From Royal Center, you can walk, hike, or bike north on the Panhandle Pathway to Winamac or south to France Park. These two directions and the activities mentioned give you different ways to include the trail in your plans. The combination of rail corridor, fields, woods, and river crossing also makes the trail appealing to travelers who are not looking for just one specific activity.

Carousel, Architecture, and Museums

The Logansport Cass County Dentzel Carousel is a National Historic Landmark. More than a hundred years old, the carousel is hand-carved and fully restored; it was created by Gustav A. Dentzel. Visitors can reach for the brass ring. If you plan to enjoy this experience, check operating days and hours in advance.

The Long Home Museum offers another perspective on history: the building is an Italianate-style residence originally built in 1853 for Dr. George Jerolaman. While the carousel centers on a specific experience, the Long Home draws attention to the architecture of a historic house. The Longcliff Museum explores the history of Logansport State Hospital and displays artworks, artifacts, documents, and other exhibits. Visits are available by appointment only.

The Fiberglass Freaks’ Batman Museum adds another cultural dimension. On display are hundreds of Batman toys, props, and promotional materials. The exhibits cover different eras and portrayals of the character in television, movies, and comics; the collection on display may change over time. Together, these places offer different themes for a stay, from architecture and local history to a collection centered on a well-known comic book character.
