Moreno Valley combines parks and trails with opportunities to enjoy the landscape, history, and culture. The city maintains more than 540 acres of parks and trails; its Parks and Community Services Department maintains more than 30 parks and five municipal facilities. If you’re looking for a hotel in Moreno Valley, the different goals for your trip can help guide your plans, whether you’re planning a hike, a ride on a multi-use trail, or a visit focused on history and culture.

Each attraction has its own character. The Anza Trail lists its length and approximate walking time. At the Box Springs Mountain Reserve, the focus is on multi-use trails with varying difficulty levels. The museum and events offer different experiences.

Trails and landscapes in Moreno Valley

Moreno Valley’s trail network is suitable for walkers, cyclists, and horseback riders. The city also hosts annual community hikes called Hike to the Top. This gives you a choice between the trail network’s different uses and a city-hosted community hike. Check the specific date when planning your trip if you’d like to include one of the hikes.

The Box Springs Mountain Reserve spans 3,400 acres and overlooks Riverside and Moreno Valley. The mountain in the reserve reaches an elevation of more than 3,000 feet. Several miles of multi-use trails with varying difficulty levels offer different challenges to consider when planning a hike. Both parking lots have picnic tables and restrooms, which you can factor in when planning a break.

The Anza Trail through Moreno Valley is a certified, eight-mile trail that begins at Towngate Memorial Park. This flat, paved multi-use trail is suitable for walking, jogging, and cycling. Walking the route takes approximately two to four hours. The section lies between historic Anza expedition camps No. 58 and No. 59 and on the ancestral lands of the Luiseno, Tongva, and Cahuilla. This route combines a specific trail length and walking time with historical and cultural context. By comparison, the multi-use trails and their varying difficulty levels define the character of an outing at Box Springs Mountain Reserve.

Museum and events

The Moreno Valley Museum & ArtSpace presents interactive exhibits on the history and culture of Moreno Valley. An immersive area uses light, sound, and interactive design. These offerings give a museum visit a different focus from a day on the trails: here, the emphasis is on history and culture and how they are presented through interactive elements.

MoVal Rocks offers free, family-friendly live concerts featuring local artists every summer. Local food vendors are also part of the event. The annual Springtastic Festival and Egg Hunt hosts a free egg hunt for children up to and including age 12; the festival also features a Youth Fun Zone, a live DJ, and food vendors. El Grito features music, free entertainment, food, and activities for children. Each event has its own focus: live concerts at MoVal Rocks, an egg hunt and youth area at Springtastic, and music and activities for children at El Grito. Check the date of the relevant event if you’d like to include one of these activities in your trip plans.
