Yazır appeals to travelers interested in archaeological history and historic buildings when choosing a place to stay. The town’s history brings together a long period of settlement at Yazır Höyük, a Roman settlement at Mevkii Gülman and an Ottoman water cistern. It also includes a cemetery with a historic tomb attribution and a well that was designated for protection. The sites differ in their periods, locations and architectural forms; these distinctions give your stay a specific cultural focus.

Archaeological Sites and Their Periods

Yazır Höyük is located in the center of town, on a flat plain at an elevation of about 900 meters above sea level. The höyük was inhabited from the Early Bronze Age through the Roman period and has been protected as a first-degree archaeological site since 1990. Its settlement history therefore spans a broad period, beginning well before the Roman era.

The ancient settlement at Mevkii Gülman represents a different historical period. It was founded in the 2nd or 3rd century AD, during the Roman period, as a tower-like settlement. It lies east of Yazır, at the side of the Antalya–Korkuteli road, and was designated and protected as a first-degree archaeological site in 2003. While the long span of settlement is the main feature of the höyük, Gülman is associated with a specific foundation date in the Roman period.

Keklicek Sarnıcı: Ottoman Water Engineering

Keklicek Sarnıcı was built in 1917 during the Ottoman period as a water cistern. It is located in Mevkii Keklicek in Yazır, 100 meters south of the Antalya–Korkuteli road, and is one of the waterworks along Korkuteli Göç Yolları, the Uluyol. The structure is octagonal and built of dressed and rubble stone. Inside, the space is circular; it is topped by a vault and a round dome and has a concrete-plastered interior.

The northern entrance is rectangular and vaulted, with a triangular pediment. There is an inscription on the building. A stone staircase leads inside. A description dated February 25, 2023, says that the interior was clean and well maintained; the cistern continued to be used for water. Check current access conditions before visiting.

Cemetery and Historic Well

Korkuteli Yenice Cemetery is located in Mevkii Yenice in Yazır, beside the old Antalya–Korkuteli road, 120 meters southeast of Küçük Yenice Hanı. A tombstone in the cemetery is attributed to İbrahim Paşa, who died in 1814. This attribution is a historical interpretation.

In Mevkii Büngüş in Yazır Mahallesi, a decision was made to register a historic water well as an immovable cultural asset worthy of protection; the decision is dated November 28, 2025.

Location References at a Glance

The different location references are useful for orientation: the höyük is in the town center, Gülman is east of Yazır beside the road, and the cistern is south of the Antalya–Korkuteli road. Küçük Yenice Hanı serves as a reference point for the cemetery.
