Discover Tolochenaz: lake, nature and culture
Accommodation in Tolochenaz
Tolochenaz combines a peaceful beach on Lake Geneva with nature themes centred on water and rivers, as well as sites of remembrance from the village’s history. You can focus your stay on the lakeshore, exhibitions and wildlife watching, or on the history of the village.
Lakeshore and waterside paths
Plage du Stand in Tolochenaz is a peaceful beach on Lake Geneva. It offers easy access to the water and an unobstructed view of the Alps. If you would like to spend time by the shore, this is a place to enjoy a direct connection with the lake, without needing to combine your beach visit with a particular activity.
The Sentier de la Truite offers a different perspective. You can follow the Boiron in Tolochenaz along this educational trail. The route runs from Château de Morges along the lake to La Maison de la Rivière, then through the forest beside the Boiron and through Saint-Prex. It therefore passes through several distinct types of landscape. You can also plan your walk according to your interest in the lake, river or forest.
La Maison de la Rivière: nature and culture
La Maison de la Rivière is located on Lake Geneva beside the Boiron river. Its playful, interactive exhibitions are designed for families. The permanent exhibition brings together nature and culture, with the F.-A. Forel submarine, Neolithic remains and a mammoth tooth on display. Other exhibits include Bronze Age and lake-dwelling remains, a Roman milestone and a gallery of native animals. The museum also houses the Genton collection, with almost 400 taxidermied vertebrates.
There are also things to observe outdoors: the outdoor aquariums offer a look at fish from the lake and rivers. Turtles, frogs and dragonflies live in two educational ponds. The programme also includes temporary exhibitions, events and educational trails such as the Sentier de la Truite. The Buvette serves seasonal, local and often organic food.
To get there by bus, take route B 702 to the Les Saux stop; from there, it is a ten-minute walk. The entire centre is accessible to people with reduced mobility. Free parking for La Maison de la Rivière is available 100 metres away.
Sites of remembrance in Tolochenaz
Place Audrey Hepburn in the centre of Tolochenaz honours the actress. La Paisible is the house where Audrey Hepburn lived during her time in Tolochenaz. The church is also part of this local history: it was built in 1930 by architect Alfred de Goumoëns. Audrey Hepburn’s funeral service was held there in late January 1993. The three sites offer different perspectives on the actress’s memory—from the square named after her, to her former home and the place where her funeral service was held.
Wine tastings and practical planning
La Cave de La Côte occasionally holds themed tastings and tasting classes led by an oenologist. As dates may vary, check the current programme if you would like to plan your visit around one. La Cave de La Côte’s Pavillon de Tolochenaz has free parking. As parking information may change, it is advisable to check before setting off.
