When choosing a hotel in Saas-Grund, your planned activities for each day can be a helpful starting point. Options range from summer hikes in the high-alpine Hohsaas and Kreuzboden area to a variety of bike trails and cultural topics in the old village center. This makes it easy to organize your stay around your preferred focus: mountain activities, specific routes with named starting and finishing points, or exhibitions related to alpine history and personal stories. The following differences in activities, routes, and distances provide an overview to help you plan.

Hohsaas and Kreuzboden: Hiking and Views

The Hohsaas and Kreuzboden area is considered high alpine and offers summer hikes and high-altitude trails. From here, you can see 18 four-thousanders in the Mischabel range and the Monte Rosa massif. The Hohsaas viewpoint is about five minutes from Saas-Grund by cable car. Timetables vary by season; check the connection that applies to your travel date. From the sun terrace in Hohsaas, you can see the Monte Rosa massif and the Saas mountains, although visibility depends on the weather.

Bike Trails of Varying Lengths

The Furwald singletrack runs from Triftalp via “Zingelstapfu” and through the “Furwald” forest down to Saas-Grund. The Kreuzboden Bike Skills Park has three varied routes, each around 380 m long, and a short uphill trail. The five-kilometer Kreuzboden–Trift Flowtrail runs from Kreuzboden down to Trift and has supplemented the existing Hohsaas Trail since summer 2022. The Hohsaas Trail starts in Hohsaas and is intended for mountain biking. The distances indicate the different scales: five kilometers for the Flowtrail compared with around 380 m for each route in the Bike Skills Park. Routes and trail conditions may change; check current conditions before setting out.

Play Areas and Bouldering

At Kreuzboden, the adventure area offers play equipment, a water play park, and a barbecue area. Individual facilities may change; it is worth checking for current information before your visit. Saas-Grund also has a large outdoor bouldering area with four sub-sectors. One of these is reserved exclusively for beginner boulderers. This layout helps you identify the designated beginner area within the larger sector. Boulder problems and access conditions may change; check them before you go bouldering.

Culture in the Old Village Center

The Sonnenhalde cultural center is located in the old village center of Saas-Grund. The village’s cultural offerings include an exhibition about Alexander Burgener, the “King of Mountain Guides.” It includes an integrated cinema and explains his significance to alpine history, including his first ascents. The Johann Josef Imseng memorial exhibition tells visitors about his life and work. If you would like your stay to include cultural experiences alongside hiking or bike trails, these two topics offer different points of interest: Burgener’s exhibition focuses on alpine history and first ascents, while Imseng’s focuses on his life and work. Exhibition displays may change.
