History, music and nature

Degersheim was first mentioned in 837 under the name «Tegerasca». The population originally made its living from livestock farming and grain cultivation; after 1750, the cotton industry developed first, followed by the embroidery industry. In 1818, a village fire destroyed 40 homes, 15 barns and the church in Degersheim. These historical connections complement the local and economic themes of the educational trail, which is not limited to any one period.

Nature and culture also offer their own highlights: The nationally significant Rotmoos raised bog is in Degersheim, west of Wolfertswil; restoration work is underway. At Dreamfactory, 250 years of music history are brought to life. Many instruments can be tried out or experienced in action. Degersheim public swimming pool is open daily from 09:00 to 11:00 during the summer season. Check the latest information when planning your visit.

Degersheim’s annual fair takes place on the first Monday in September and the preceding Sunday. As the dates of individual events may change, confirm the dates for your travel year before planning your trip around them.
