Lütisburg between the Thur and Necker

Lütisburg is in the Toggenburg constituency, around ten kilometres south of Wil. The municipality stretches across wooded slopes and farmland; the Thur and Necker rivers run through the area. Walks, hikes and cycle tours are among the things to do in and around Lütisburg. There are also themed trails, a nature experience area, and cultural and technical attractions. Landscape and nature experience area

The “Natur pur an Necker und Thur” (Nature in its purest form on the Necker and Thur) nature experience area lies in the municipalities of Lütisburg, Kirchberg and Bütschwil-Ganterschwil. It provides habitats for numerous sensitive plant and animal species. A trail with various information boards has the character of an educational trail and introduces visitors to nature topics. The nature experience area also has barbecue and swimming spots. This gives you several ways to enjoy the area: you can learn about its habitats and read the boards, or take a break at one of the available spots.

Circular trails and their themes

More than 30 windmills line the Windrädli Trail between Tufertschwil and Winzenberg, each representing a different profession. One circular route on the trail runs from Tufertschwil via Rimensberg and Winzenberg and takes about 1.5 hours. The windmills give the trail its own theme, while the route also connects several named stops.

The circular trail around Chapf also takes about 1.5 hours and is suitable for pushchairs. Conditions on this trail may vary with the season, so check them before setting out. Both circular trails have a similar approximate duration. The Chapf route also has the added benefit of being suitable for pushchairs, which may help with your planning.

Culture, history and technology

The oldest known reference to Lütisburg dates from 1214 and names the place “Liutinsburch”. A later historical example of craftsmanship is today’s wooden Thur Bridge in Lütisburg, built between 1789 and 1791. These two dates offer different ways to explore the past: an early recorded place name and a specific structure with a known construction period.

The comic trail offers another distinctive experience. It was created by Gusti Arnold, and carved panels featuring various comic characters mark the route. Those interested in the history of technology can visit the typewriter museum to see more than 1,000 exhibits from the world of office equipment dating from before 1930. Visits are possible by telephone appointment in advance. The Töff Museum features a unique moped with a sidecar. These attractions range from a historical collection to individual, unusual exhibits.

Farm life and alpine flowers

At the “Buurehof zom Aaluege” (farm to see), you can experience everyday farm life and observe and pet various animals. The farm also has a rock garden where you can admire different alpine flowers. Guided tours of about one hour are available for groups of ten or more and must be arranged in advance.
