Riedholz is a municipality in the canton of Solothurn and belongs to the Lebern district. If you are looking for a hotel in Riedholz, the local highlights provide a clear guide: the Attisholz site with its industrial history, urban golf and graffiti workshop, as well as the landscape stretching from the Aare to the Verenakette. Protected buildings and a hiking route add different perspectives on the area.

Landscape between the Aare and the Verenakette

Riedholz is in the Unterleberberg region, in the Solothurn Mittelland at the foot of the Jura. The municipality extends from the Aare across a wooded moraine ridge to the Riedholz terrace and the wooded ridge of the Verenakette. Its regional location and the extent of the municipal area describe two scales: Riedholz in the Solothurn Mittelland and the landscape within the municipality.

For 1997, land-use statistics show 40% forest and woodland, as well as 38% agricultural land. These figures add a second perspective to the topographical sequence: not the landscape forms, but how the land was used at the time. The two shares are only two percentage points apart and were similar in size according to the statistics.

Protected buildings and the history of the site

The cantonal register entry dated 30 September 2019 lists the administration building at Attisholzstrasse 10 and the acid tower on the factory site as protected objects.

While the register entry names individual buildings, the guided tour of the Attisholz site places the area in its historical context. It covers the industrial past, its current interim use and the plans for the Vision 2045 of the owner, Halter AG. In addition to the public areas, it offers a glimpse into various industrial spaces that are otherwise closed. The past, current interim use and plans represent three different time perspectives.

Urban golf and graffiti workshop

For a playful activity, try urban golf at the Attisholz site. The course has nine holes, with the stations leading from the boulevard down to the Aare. The holes are on publicly accessible land, and each team is accompanied by a guide from UP! Event.

At the graffiti workshop, participants first receive a brief introduction to using spray cans. They then create their own picture or a given design as a group. The contrast for planning your day lies in the format: nine holes with a guide, or a brief introduction followed by a collaborative creative session.

Fire pits and hiking route

At the Waldhaus in Riedholz, you can use two outdoor fire pits for grilling free of charge. This provides a freely available option alongside the guided activities at the Attisholz site.

One specific section of the route is described by the Solothurn–Niederwil circuit: after crossing the Gumme near the old Oele in Niederwil and making a short climb, it reaches Riedholz. Check route conditions before setting out.
