Langendorf: History, Green Spaces and Outdoor Activities
Accommodation in Langendorf
Langendorf is a municipality in the canton of Solothurn and the district of Lebern. Several topics are relevant when planning a stay here: rail and bus connections, the heritage of the former watchmaking industry, green spaces in the municipality and opportunities for outdoor activities.
Getting here by train and bus
Langendorf is served by rail and bus routes 1 and 2. The train station offers direct connections to Solothurn and Olten. If you are planning your journey or individual trips by public transport, check timetables and routes in advance. This helps you plan around the connections that suit your travel dates.
Watchmaking history and architecture
The ecumenical church centre in Langendorf was built to plans by Zurich architect Manuel Pauli between 1969 and 1971. The Lancoturm, with its giant clock, represents another historical legacy: it has been preserved as a landmark of the former watchmaking industry and stands for precision and fine mechanics. The two buildings offer different perspectives on local history: the centre reflects a period of 20th-century construction, while the tower is linked to the former watchmaking industry. If you are interested in architecture or the history of technology, these are two different points of interest.
Green spaces and nature projects
A display garden, which welcomes visitors, is located by the “Ladedorf” bus stop. The park behind the municipal building also welcomes guests. The multi-year project “Natürlich Langendorf” (“Naturally Langendorf”) offers another connection with nature: since 2019, it has regularly organised events centred on nature islands with green spaces, shrubs, trees and water. Nature-related activities therefore include both named green spaces and events focused on these nature islands.
Outdoor activities
The Langendorf–Bellach–Oberdorf Vitaparcours is 2.7 kilometres long and has an elevation gain of 80 metres. It is set in a natural environment in the idyllic Heimlisberg forest and is considered well maintained. Two starting points with parking make it easy to reach from Langendorf and Bellach. The distance and elevation gain provide two different reference points for planning: the length of the course and its stated elevation difference.
For cycling, the wider regional surroundings of the Lebern district offer a different perspective. Cycling in the area includes the Weissenstein Jura mountains and the Aare, rolling landscapes, sections along riverbanks and canals, as well as flat and moderately uphill routes. Alongside the specific information about the Vitaparcours, the wider region offers a variety of landscapes and route types.
Events and community activities
The Langendorf concert hall on Konzerthallenstrasse can be rented for various events and has room for up to 350 people. If you would like to combine your stay with an event, the hall is a specific option to consider when looking for a venue.
The running group offers another way to combine exercise with a regular meeting point: since 26 June 2026, it has met every Friday at 6:30 a.m. at the Langendorf municipal building; everyone is welcome. Before taking part, check that the time and meeting point are still current.
