St Zeno's Church and local history
The Catholic parish church of St Zeno is in Ladir and has been under federal protection since 1964. A church with the right to collect tithes is mentioned in Ladir around 840. St Zeno faces east and consists of a single-nave hall without chapels and a recessed, flat-ended choir. The high altar dates from 1710 and was renovated around 1760. Ladir's Perdanonza, the church consecration festival, is also part of the village's history: it is dedicated to Our Lady of Mount Carmel and takes place every year on the third Sunday in July. Chapels and places along the way
The Bruder Klaus Chapel is located above Ladir and can be reached from there on foot in just under an hour. According to the inscription, master builder Alois Casutt from Falera built the chapel in 1952 using stones from the surrounding area and Val Falera. The Stone of Saint Zeno, also known as Crap da Sogn Sein, lies above Schluein beside the old road connecting Ladir with Schluein.
The Via Glion follows an old connecting road to Ladir and continues above the village along a forest path towards Siat. On the first stage, 13 information boards along the hiking trail, featuring audio and sometimes video, tell the stories of notable people, events and buildings. Two panoramic boards offer impressive views and explain the surrounding landscape.
The fourth stage of the Senda Sursilvana runs from Siat via Ruschein to Ladir, then crosses Val da Cafegn and leads to Falera via a short descent. Public transport can make the stage easier; check the timetable when planning your trip.
Larisch, hiking and winter activities
The Larisch picnic site and the Larisch playground are both on the edge of the forest among larches, high above the houses, and offer sweeping mountain views. The picnic site is sheltered, and both the Way of St James and the Senda Sursilvana pass by it. There is a fire pit with firewood at the playground.
The Gonda cross-country ski trail is located above Ladir in a sunny spot with panoramic mountain views. The flat loop, about 1 km long, is suitable for beginners learning and improving their classic cross-country skiing or skating technique. Experienced cross-country skiers can take on challenging climbs and fast descents on the 4.3 km trail. The routes differ in length and terrain. Snow and grooming conditions depend on the season, so check current conditions before planning a winter trip. A ski tour from Crest da Tiarms also leads down to Ladir. Check current mountain conditions before planning this tour.
