Laax is in the canton of GraubĂĽnden, in the heart of the Swiss Alps. LAAX offers a range of activities, including winter sports with snow parks, as well as rafting, pedal boating, hiking and forest walks. If you are looking for hotels in Laax, you can first consider which of these interests will shape your stay. Attractions range from outdoor activities to history and culture in the village.

Winter Sports and Outdoor Activities

A special trail through the treetops, the 1.56-kilometre-long Senda dil Dragun connects Laax Murschetg with Laax Dorf. Along the route are five experience platforms with seating, information and views. 38 nature panels explain native animals, plants and tree species; the explanations are available in German, English and Romansh. The Senda combines exercise with insights into nature, without being limited to a simple viewing route.

The Never End Trail is for experienced riders. Its features include North Shore elements, natural rock passages, drops, tables and shaped berms. If you are looking for a different kind of activity, the rocksresort Park has a mini ramp, an urban surf wave, a snake run, a playground, a trampoline, various sports equipment and slacklines for skateboards, scooters and BMX bikes. In summer, the rocks Park Tower offers a 30-metre-high vertical drop, a zipline over the rocksresort Park and the snake run, as well as a 73-metre-long spiral slide. Seasonal operation may vary; check what is available before visiting.

The Hubertus archery park starts at Crap Sogn Gion and follows 24 different stations to Curnius. Check the lift connections before planning your visit. This helps you decide between the different activities: a route with stations, a trail with information about nature, or a trail with designated features for experienced riders.

Lake Laax and Year-Round Activities

Lake Laax, called Lag Grond in Romansh, is in the middle of the village at 1,016 metres above sea level. Swimming and pedal boating are possible there. The lake also has a beach volleyball court, a children's playground and fire pits; seasonal availability may vary. When the lake surface freezes in winter, a natural ice rink forms for all ages. Some of these activities therefore depend on the season and, in the case of ice skating, specifically on conditions on the lake.

Lake Laax is a five-minute walk from the Laax GR, See/Lag bus stop; the route is accessible with a pushchair and wheelchair. Check the bus timetable before travelling. Another year-round option in Laax, Aua Grava has an indoor swimming pool as well as wellness and fitness facilities.

Culture, Local History and Nature

The Laax Cultural Trail is a walking route around the old village centre. Information panels explain interesting historical and geographical features. The trail is around 8 kilometres long and takes approximately two hours—a longer walk with local history and geographical information along the way.

Laax parish church is a Baroque church built by villagers between 1675 and 1678. On 17 October 1677, it was dedicated to the Holy Trinity, the Virgin Mary, and its patrons Gallus and Othmar. The Laax Local Museum, formerly the village dairy, opened in 1980. It showcases the furnishings and way of life of a farming family 150 years ago, as well as objects from agriculture, crafts and sports from earlier and more recent times. A museum café and changing exhibitions round out the visit. CULARTA – atelier e gallaria – is a place to work and meet for artists and art enthusiasts, and offers public workshops and exhibitions.

Lagenberg Castle is also part of the area's history. Its restored remains are on the ridge between Laax village and Murschetg. The now-wooded hill was the centre of the Lordship of Laax in the late Middle Ages. The castle was under the direct sovereignty of the Holy Roman Empire and was the residence of a Habsburg bailiff.

Lag digl Oberst is part of the natural landscape. It is listed both in the Inventory of Fens and in the Inventory of Amphibian Spawning Areas of National Importance. Most of Lag digl Oberst and its surroundings consist of reed beds, tall-sedge and small-sedge fens, purple moor-grass meadows and transition mires, and the area is considered an important resting place for birds.
