Hiking and themed trails
Three hiking options can be compared directly by distance: the SillerenbĂĽhl circular trail is 1.8 kilometers long, the Blumenweg themed trail is 3.2 kilometers, and the trail to the Engstligen Falls is 7.2 kilometers. These distances make it easy to compare the length of each route at a glance. The Via Alpina adds a challenging stage to this selection: Stage 14 is a hiking route from Kandersteg to Adelboden.
The «Vogellisi» adventure trail is designated as a themed hiking trail and brings the Vogellisi story to life through nature experiences, games, and fun. The trail includes ten adventure stations and a barbecue area. Its story and stations give it a distinct theme. If your plans depend on the associated lifts or facilities, check their seasonal operating schedules.
At VogellisiBerg, Trottiland Adelboden offers seven varied routes covering a total of 45 kilometers. As routes may be available seasonally, check in advance which ones suit your travel dates.
Waterfalls and gorge
At the Engstligen Falls, the cascades plunge 600 meters from the Engstligenalp plateau into the valley. They have been protected by the canton since 1948. You can experience them via a circular trail, a mountain hiking trail, or a via ferrata, as well as by bus or from the gondola. As access conditions and bus and gondola services may vary seasonally, check before your visit.
The Choleren Gorge offers a different experience: the 100-meter-long rocky gorge is equipped throughout with stairs and bridges. It features waterfalls, numerous watermills, and smooth rock formations. While the Engstligen Falls offer several ways to experience and access them, the Choleren Gorge is a clearly defined natural attraction with its own infrastructure.
Local history and alpine experience
The Adelboden Local History Museum features a diverse exhibition on local customs and life in the Engstligental. Exhibits include sports equipment, clothing, and minerals, along with plenty of information about Adelboden’s history and an authentic alpine hut. The museum complements the trails and natural attractions with regional culture and history. As opening arrangements may vary, check the visiting details in advance.
The history of the village also includes its early hotels: Adelboden’s first hotel, the «Stöckli», was built in 1878.
During a visit to an alpine cheese dairy, visitors can watch cheese being made up close while enjoying an Ă„lpler-Zmorge (traditional alpine breakfast). This experience is seasonal; check the dates before your trip.
Ski area and guest card
For a winter trip, the Silleren–Chuenisbärgli ski area offers a total of 34 kilometers of pistes: 17 kilometers of blue, 15 kilometers of red, and 2 kilometers of black runs. The color-coded breakdown gives you an overview of the length of each category. Check which pistes are currently open before your trip.
After staying at least one night at the destination, you automatically receive a guest card. It serves as a ticket for public transport and many activities. As conditions and the area of validity may change, check in advance what the card currently covers for your planned trips and activities.
