Kölliken lies in the lower Uerkental valley and borders the canton of Solothurn. When choosing what to explore, you can focus on different things: woodland trails, water-based leisure or architectural and local history. The attractions provide ideas to help you plan your stay around your interests.

Planet Trail and Sensory Experience

The Aarau–Kölliken Planet Trail is just under six kilometres long. At a scale of 1:1 billion, it illustrates the distances from the Sun as well as the sizes of the Sun, the nine planets and Earth’s Moon. The route passes through the forests of Aarau, Unterentfelden, Oberentfelden and Kölliken. It thus combines a depiction of the solar system with a hike through several woodland areas. Its length of just under six kilometres gives the route a clear framework for planning your day. From Kölliken railway station, you can reach the Planet Trail by following the hiking trail westwards to Kölliker Tann.

The Dorfplatz Kölliken sensory trail offers a different experience: walking across the various surfaces creates a special sensory experience. According to municipal information dated 9 October 2024, the trail is freely accessible to the public. While the Planet Trail focuses on the solar system and its route through the woods, here it is the changing ground surfaces that shape the experience.

Swimming Pool and Play Areas

The facilities at Kölliken swimming pool, as described in 2025, include large shade-giving trees, a well-maintained sunbathing lawn and a beach volleyball court. The children’s area has a large sandpit, water to splash in and a large sunshade sail. Check the details before your visit if you plan to rely on seasonal facilities. The swimming pool also has a restaurant.

The public Rägeboge playground is another option for outdoor play. For trips with children, both the children’s area at the swimming pool and the playground are useful points of reference when planning your day. The places offer different things: the swimming pool features a sunbathing lawn, beach volleyball and water, while the playground is all about outdoor play.

Church and Historic Buildings

Kölliken’s Reformed church was built in 1507 to replace a medieval place of worship. The historic ensemble in the centre comprises the church building, the walled churchyard and the rectory, and is reminiscent of a late Gothic church. The church is protected as a monument at both cantonal and federal levels.

The Reformed church is open during services and events. For a personal visit to the church, a key can be obtained at any time from the rectory or from the sexton at the hairdressing salon next to the parish hall. As this visitor information may change, check in advance how to obtain the key.

According to its inscription, the Egelmoos high-stud house was built no later than 1758. It retains its original, smoke-blackened high-stud construction, large sections of the original plank-frame façades and interior plank-frame walls, as well as the essential floor-plan structure. These features make the house an important testament to a particular moment in craftsmanship and architectural design.

Thatched-Roof Houses and Village Museum

Kölliken is known as a village of thatched-roof houses; three of the five buildings of this type still standing in Aargau are in Kölliken. The permanent exhibition at the Village Museum, housed in the thatched-roof house, also focuses on life and work on a farm around 1900. It includes agricultural and forestry tools and machinery, a salt room, washing equipment and beekeeping exhibits. There is also a kitchen garden and an orchard with a collection of old regional fruit varieties.

Due to renovation work, the Village Museum in the thatched-roof house will remain closed for the entire calendar year 2026. If your stay is after 2026, check in advance whether the museum has reopened. The thatched-roof houses and historic buildings give Kölliken a distinctive architectural focus alongside its trails and leisure activities.
