Swimming and cycling by Hällungen

Bastevik bathing spot is in the southern part of Lake Hällungen in Ucklum. You can swim in Hällungen there. The “Cykla Hällungen runt” cycling route continues towards Bastevik and offers a point of reference if you would like to combine cycling and swimming in your trip plans. As route details may change, check the current route before setting off. There is a parking area on a gravel surface, ten metres from the bathing spot. This short distance is a useful point of reference for your swimming stop.

Church and historic transport routes

Ucklum Church stands in the village, just west of the former E6, now called Road 650, which runs through the village. The present-day church was built in 1859. Another historic point of reference is Smedseröd courthouse and inn: it is in Ucklum parish, on the old main road through Bohuslän. The present-day courthouse was built in 1876, 17 years after the church. The construction dates can therefore be compared chronologically, while the different settings remain clear: the church in the village and Smedseröd on the old transport route through the parish.

Museum and cultural heritage

At Ucklum Local Heritage Museum, you can see furnishings and materials from the first classroom at Ucklum School, agricultural tools and household items. The museum also features a mill with a waterwheel. Its exhibits cover subjects ranging from school and agriculture to the home, with the waterwheel adding another feature. If you are especially interested in everyday history, you will find several different areas represented in this collection.

Places in the surrounding area

The old burial ground at Grössby–Prästegärde lies northeast of the centre of Ucklum. You can walk around it; there is an information board beside the car park. The walk and the board offer two ways to experience the site: getting around on foot and learning about it on location.

Information boards along the trails at Gårdsjön describe the research carried out there and the area's plants and animals. Research and wildlife are the two subjects to look out for as you read the information. This adds a nature-focused perspective to the historic attractions, without conflating them with the places in the centre.
