Golf, church history, archaeological traces and nature offer different ways to make the most of a stay in Spekeröd. If you are looking for a hotel in Spekeröd, you can choose based on the focus of your trip. Stenungsunds Golfklubb has a specific address in the town; there is also the history of Spekeröds kyrka, prehistoric sites and the Svartedalen Nature Reserve, which is accessible from the Stenungsund side.

Golf in Spekeröd

Stenungsunds Golfklubb is located at Lundby 205, 444 93 Spekeröd. Its golf course is an open heathland course that winds around the Anråsån. No golf club membership or previous golf experience is required to play the Korthålsbanan, and no tee-time reservation is needed either. These conditions apply to the Korthålsbanan.

The club also offers a Grönt-kort course to obtain the Swedish golfing proficiency certificate. This has a different focus from the Korthålsbanan: this is a course for obtaining the certificate, while the conditions stated for the Korthålsbanan apply to membership, previous experience and tee-time reservations. Course offerings may change. Check the current offering if the course is important to your travel plans.

Church and prehistoric traces

Spekeröds kyrka is dedicated to Saint Bartholomew. It is mentioned in 1388 under the name “Spikkariodærs kirkia”; its medieval origins are likely dated to the 12th or 13th century. The year 1388 refers to the mention of the name, not a year of construction. The two details therefore refer to different historical points.

Spekeröd 8 is an Iron Age archaeological complex consisting of a burial ground and a settlement. The burial ground comprised around 20 graves and is dated from the Late Roman Iron Age to the Migration Period, approximately 350–500 AD. Both the time span and the number are approximate.

There are also traces in the area around Kännestorp of approximately 1,500 years of continuity from the Late Bronze Age to the Viking Age. The southern part of a study area near Kännestorp belongs to a larger prehistoric settlement centre with several settlements and burial grounds. The locations therefore differ in scale: Spekeröd 8 is a specific complex consisting of a burial ground and a settlement, while the information about Kännestorp refers to a larger study area.

Nature and local cultural life

The Svartedalen Nature Reserve is accessible from Spekeröd on the Stenungsund side. The Bohusleden passes through the reserve. For travellers who want to make nature the focus, these are two specific local features: the accessible protected area and the trail that passes through it.

Spekerödsdagen is a recurring village day for the whole family. It is held at Hembygdsgården Kleva and Spekeröds Bygdegård. The 2026 event included craft and art workshops; future programmes may differ. If you would like to include the village day in your trip, check the dates and the programme for that year.
