As a church village in Lidköping Municipality in Västergötland, Tun lies in a vibrant cultural landscape alongside farmland and horse pastures, close to Lake Vänern. For your trip planning, several specific themes can be distinguished: Bronze Age history, local cultural heritage, Vänerslingan and an exercise trail. You can get to know Tun according to your interests through historic sites, a regional cultural route or an opportunity to exercise.

Church, Bronze Age Mound and Museum

Tuns kyrka was built in 1846 on the same site as its medieval predecessor. The 19th-century church building and its medieval predecessor therefore belong to different periods, but share the same location. This connection to the site is a specific point of reference when exploring the church’s history.

At Stenkullen, near Tun, a much earlier period comes to the fore. The Bronze Age burial mound is one of the largest of its kind in Sweden. It measures 60 metres in diameter and seven metres in height. These two measurements convey its scale: the mound extends considerably farther in width than in height. In comparison with the church, Stenkullen represents a much earlier period in the area’s history.

Tuns Hembygdsmuseum, at Silvii skola, preserves a large number of objects from the local area. It also contains traces of the first people in the area. This offers a different way of exploring the past than looking at a large monument or the site of a church: the collection draws attention to locally connected objects and early human traces. People have lived and worked in the area around Tun for several thousand years, and much of this history has been preserved.

Vänerslingan as a Regional Route

Vänerslingan offers a regional perspective on Tun. It is both a road and a water route along the southwestern shore of Lake Vänern, west of Lidköping, and leads to Tun. The specific road section described runs from the Örslösarondellen in Lidköping to Tun and onward to the Viggen rest area on Road 44. This lets you distinguish between a named road route and the broader route perspective on Lake Vänern: the section lists the sequence from Lidköping through Tun to the rest area, while Vänerslingan is also described as a water route.

The cultural road features churches, museums, nature reserves, hiking trails, swimming spots, experiences and attractions. This broad range of themes goes beyond any single attraction; individual offerings and their conditions may change. If you are planning a specific stop, check the information beforehand.

Exercise Locally

The exercise trail is a dedicated option for getting active locally: it starts at Tunets IP. From Tun’s residential area, it can be reached via a connecting path. Both the starting point and the described access route are specified. Check local conditions before your visit. Unlike the regional Vänerslingan, the trail has a specific starting point and an access route from Tun’s residential area.
