Hindås: Hiking, paddling and culture
Accommodation in Hindås
If you’re looking for a hotel in Hindås, specific starting points can help you plan your stay around your interests. Two hiking trails begin at the railway station; the hiking trails and exercise paths in the village start at Hindåsgården. Paddling is another option: Östra Nedsjön and Västra Nedsjön are connected by a canal. Cultural events take place in the central station building, and the Klippan nature reserve is nearby. This makes it easy to consider activities, local sights and cultural events separately when planning your trip.
Hiking from the railway station and Hindåsgården
The 42-kilometre Vildmarksleden begins at Hindås railway station and ends at Skatås motionscentral in Gothenburg. The 140-kilometre Sjuhäradsleden also begins at the railway station and leads to Mullsjö. Both trails share a starting point, but differ considerably in length and destination.
Further along its route through the region, the Sjuhäradsleden passes through varied landscapes of forest, agricultural land and urban areas. The Hindås Skidklubb is responsible for the section of the trail in Härryda Municipality.
The hiking trails and exercise paths within Hindås all start at Hindåsgården. A marked trail system also begins there and passes through the eastern areas of the Klippan nature reserve.
Paddling and lakes
The canal connects Östra Nedsjön with Västra Nedsjön. This link between the two lakes is also relevant to paddling in Hindås. Hindås Kanotklubb offers paddling in several disciplines: kayak, canoe, SUP, surfski and dragon boat. This gives you specific options to guide your trip planning around a particular paddling discipline.
Hindås Kanotklubb and Kanotcentral are a recognised canoeing centre with canoe hire. At the northern end of Östra Nedsjön, Hindås Kanotklubb has its own property at Orreviken “Tomten”, with a wind shelter on a sandy beach.
Rental terms may vary, and club offerings may change. Before your visit, check which disciplines and rental options are currently available. Hindås Kanotklubb also runs a popular canoeing school every summer. Check the current summer programme if you would like to plan your visit around it.
Culture in the station building
The historically significant station building is centrally located in the village centre. Numerous public and private cultural events take place there throughout the year; some events are seasonal. If a particular event is important to your trip, check its date in advance.
A ceiling painting is also part of Hindås’s cultural history: art professor Ernst Pfannschmidt created it in the summer of 1923 in a church in the village.
Klippan and its history
The Klippan nature reserve is near Hindås. The Klippan farm, called Assaretorp before 1908, is one of the oldest farms in Hindås and the Björketorp parish. The buildings, now in ruins, have stood there since at least 1811. The foundations, a hearth wall and a tall chimney stack remain as ruins from the farmhouse and barn. The farm’s history adds a tangible architectural story to the landscape.
