Hällingsjö can be explored through two themes: Gingsjön, set amid forests, and traces of agricultural, craft and transport history. If you are looking for a hotel for a stay in Hällingsjö, these different points of interest can help guide your plans. At the lake, the landscape and bathing-area rules take centre stage; the historical evidence tells the story of the cultivation of the forest region and activities in earlier times.

Gingsjön and the bathing-area rules

Gingsjön is a clear-water lake surrounded by coniferous and deciduous forests. The bathing area Gingsjöns badplats in Hällingsjö has jetties, a diving tower and a toilet. If you are planning your visit around any of these facilities, check their condition in advance. Gingsjön is also designated as an EU bathing water.

The seasonal restriction is important when planning a visit to the lake: during the bathing season, from 1 May through 15 September, dogs and horses are prohibited at Gingsjön in Hällingsjö. If your trip falls within this period, take the rule into account before planning a stay by the lake with a dog or horse.

Cultural landscape and local history

The Björnhult area lies on the north shore of Gingsjön. It shows the late cultivation of the forest region and is considered the best-preserved area in Härryda Municipality. Many large clearance cairns bear witness to this cultivation. Björnhult is therefore notable not only for its landscape, but also for its history as a cultivated forest area.

Hällingsberg, also known as Säteriet, offers a different picture of the cultural landscape: this smaller 19th-century manor house is located in Hällingsjö. Its main building faces south towards farmland. The estate is surrounded by a park, and the driveway runs through an avenue. Here, information about the building and its orientation goes hand in hand with the design of its surroundings.

The mill and tannery also offer concrete insights into work in earlier times. The water-powered mill on the Hällingsjö 1:10 property was in operation until 1974. After 1931, it had two roller mills and two pairs of millstones. On the eastern shore of Hällingsjö, the foundations remain of a large wooden building with a drying floor, built as a tannery in 1850. The two sites differ in their use: one was a mill, the other a tannery.

The area around the inn preserves the old country road, with a milepost, as well as a park-like garden. The inn was moved to Hällingsjö because the village was better situated at a road junction. This story adds a transport connection to the evidence of agriculture and crafts.

Plan your stay around your interests

These themes offer different highlights: Gingsjön stands for clear water, forest surroundings and a bathing area with seasonal rules; Björnhult, Hällingsberg, the mill, the tannery and the inn convey different aspects of local and working history. Consider which of these matter most for your trip. If you are looking for a hotel in Hällingsjö, compare offers for your travel dates and choose according to the interests that suit your stay.
