Torslanda: Nature, Swimming Spots and History
Accommodation in Torslanda
If you are considering Torslanda as a destination for your hotel stay, nature, swimming spots, and history offer different areas of interest. Key themes include the birdlife at Torslandaviken, the swimming facilities at Lillebybadet, and the medieval Torslanda kyrka. The history of the airport, library events, and Flygparken offer further specific points of interest to help you plan.
Nature and surroundings
Torslandaviken is an important stopover and wintering area for birds and is part of the Natura 2000 network. Stopover and wintering refer to two different functions in the annual cycle of birds; the Natura 2000 designation adds a conservation aspect to its importance for birds. Sillvik is nearby. It has several trails and a swimming spot, and is known as a walking area. The highest point in Sillvik is about 55 metres above sea level and offers views across much of the archipelago. Torslandaviken and Sillvik therefore offer different nature experiences: birdlife and conservation on the one hand, and walking trails and views on the other.
Church and local history
Torslanda kyrka is a medieval church and one of Gothenburg’s oldest churches. Its oldest parts probably date from the late 12th or early 13th century. A protected lime tree stands in Torslanda kyrkogård, and is known to be at least 800 years old. The cemetery also has a gravestone for pastor Arfwid Gren, who died in 1799. The history of Torslanda Airport offers a more recent chapter: it was inaugurated during the 1923 exhibition summer and replaced by Landvetter in 1977. Unlike the medieval church, this part of local history belongs to the 20th century.
Swimming spots and activities
Lillebybadet has extensive rocky shores, a small sandy beach, a bathing jetty, and swimming ladders. The rocky shores and sandy beach offer different types of shoreline. Facilities also include a diving tower, barbecue area, kiosk, and toilets, including an accessible toilet. Facilities at municipal swimming spots may change seasonally; check the latest information before your visit. Batterivägen is the nearest stop for Hästevik; the beach is 1 kilometre from there. This gives you both a stop name and a specific distance to use in your planning. Torslandaviken’s importance as a stopover and wintering area is permanent, while swimming facilities may change seasonally.
You must book an appointment in advance to use the short-course facility and try footgolf at Torslanda Golfklubb. Check this requirement again before your trip if you plan to take part in either activity.
Public spaces and culture
Completed in June 2026, Flygparken in Amhult Centrum has a playground with an aircraft and a wooden air traffic control tower to play on. Flygparken is a public space where everyone is welcome. Torslanda-bibliotek offers talks, book recommendation events, storytimes, and children’s theatre. The programme changes over time; check current dates if an event is important to your visit.
