Junsele offers several clear starting points for a trip: animal encounters at Djurpark, cultural history at Kyrkberget, trails and activities on the water. If you’re looking for a hotel in Junsele, you can shape your stay around these specific interests. The options vary by theme and route length—from an encounter with animals to longer hikes.

Wildlife park and animal encounters

Junsele Djurpark is home to around 20 different animal species, including white tigers, lemurs, lynx and meerkats. Bondgårdens Zoo-skola adds an activity with farm animals to the wildlife park: children can meet pigs, sheep, horses, goats and chickens with an animal keeper, and collect eggs from the chickens.

During the lemur encounter, visitors enter the enclosure with an animal keeper, feed the lemurs small treats and learn about the animals. The encounter takes place during the zoo’s opening season. Before your trip, check whether it is available during your visit.

Culture and views at Kyrkberget

Junsele Hembygdsgård comprises 16 buildings dating from the 18th and 19th centuries. It sits high on Kyrkberget and offers views over the Ångermanälven. Here, architectural history and landscape come together in one place: the buildings’ dates provide a historical context for your visit, while the view over the river gives you a sense of the surrounding area.

Local produce at Kvarnå Trädgård

Kvarnå Trädgård is located just outside the centre of Junsele. It offers vegetables grown on a small scale, award-winning artisanal food products and freshly baked sourdough bread. The farm shop sells locally produced items from its own garden, as well as products made with berries from the forests around Junsele. The selection may change, and opening details may also vary; check before visiting.

Circular trails of varying lengths

Naturstigen Junsele is close to town and offers a glimpse of old-growth forest. The circular trail is about 9 km long, marked with orange paint on stones and signposted at the campsite in Junsele. The information about the markings and signs can help you identify the trail by name.

At 23 km in total, “Byarna runt i Junsele” is considerably longer. The circular hiking trail passes through varied terrain and starts and ends in the centre of Junsele. Along the way, it passes a pasture with young cattle and a bird sanctuary with an observation tower. The trail is also suitable for mountain biking. The main difference between the two loops is their length: about 9 km for Naturstigen, compared with 23 km for “Byarna runt”.

Water and winter activities

Galaxen is a raft covering more than 300 m² on Lake Betarsjön near Junsele. Canoes can also be rented on Lake Betarsjön and the Röån, where you can go paddling. Check rental options and water conditions locally.

Hamptjärnsberget in Junsele has a slalom slope with two runs, with cross-country ski trails below. Before visiting in winter, check the slope’s current operating status and whether the trails have been groomed. This helps you distinguish the winter activities described here from the hiking and water activities and tailor your stay to your preferred focus.
