Solberg: Winter Ski Runs, Hiking Trails and Views
Accommodation in Solberg
Solberg combines winter activities at Solbergsbacken with hiking trails on Solberget, a church with a history of construction and natural attractions in the surrounding area. The varied highlights range from winter ski runs to hikes and views, as well as architecture and fly fishing. You can plan your trip around the activities that interest you while keeping the respective routes and distances in mind.
Winter at Solbergsbacken
In winter, Solbergsbacken offers six ski runs and a children’s run. The facility also has a relaxation area with an outdoor hot tub. Solbergsbacken is located at Fritidsvägen 12, 895 98 Solberg. The easiest way to reach it is by car; it is 9 Swedish miles from Örnsköldsvik.
For ski equipment, Sportboa is a shop in Solberg near Solbergsbacken. As opening arrangements may change, check the current details before visiting. This lets you plan a visit to the facility and a possible stop at the shop as separate parts of your trip.
Hiking trails and views on Solberget
Solberget reaches an elevation of 594 metres above sea level. An observation tower on the mountain offers a 360-degree view. From Kyrkvägen in Solberg, a signposted hiking trail leads to Solberget over a distance of about 3 kilometres. Trail conditions may vary, so check them before setting out.
Solberget is also home to the Vitklippan barbecue area, which overlooks Solbergsbyn. You can park by the road and then follow a signposted trail for about 200 metres to Vitklippan. As outdoor conditions and seasonal accessibility may vary, check the current situation before visiting.
The two distance details have different starting points: about 3 kilometres from Kyrkvägen to Solberget, and about 200 metres from where you park by the road to Vitklippan. These distances are therefore not interchangeable when planning your day; the first describes the hike to Solberget, while the second describes the path to the barbecue area.
Church and landscape
Solbergs kyrka (Solberg Church) is on the southern slope of Solberget and offers views over the surrounding area. It was consecrated in September 1918. The single-nave wooden church is 37 metres long, and its western tower is 21 metres high.
Near Solberg lies Stockholmsgata, a gorge formation 50 metres deep and 1.5 kilometres long. The nature reserve can be reached via a turnoff from Highway 348 near Solberg.
The Solbergån in the surrounding area offers opportunities for fly fishing for grayling and trout. Anundsjö Vildmark is the area in and around Solberg in the Municipality of Örnsköldsvik, and is part of Höga Kusten. This lets you place local stops and activities within their wider landscape context without confusing the different destinations and route details.
