Själevad – Paddling, architecture and seasonal swimming
Accommodation in Själevad
Själevad offers a range of holiday experiences: paddling on the Moälvens kanotled, church architecture, waterside paths and seasonal swimming. When planning your trip, it’s worth taking a closer look at route lengths, the character of each route and the conditions at bathing spots; you should also check event dates individually.
Paddling on the Moälvens kanotled
The Moälvens kanotled canoe route is 20 kilometres long and runs from Moliden to the sea. A section from Moliden to the Friluftscentralen in Själevad is about 16 kilometres long and can be paddled in a canoe or sea kayak. The two figures refer to different distances: 20 kilometres for the canoe route from Moliden to the sea, and around 16 kilometres to the Friluftscentralen. On the downstream section, the route passes through Själevadsfjärden to the sea; most of the paddling is on the lake.
The Friluftscentralen has a launch point for canoes and kayaks. Check water conditions and the availability of paddling equipment before setting out.
Loop trails and bathing spots
Large parts of the shorter Själevad loop can be walked with a pram or a rollator. The bathing spot on this loop has a sandy beach, picnic tables and a barbecue area. You can combine a walk with a break by the water. However, if you’re using a pram or rollator, don’t assume you’ll be able to complete the whole loop.
At Käringberget badplats, the bathing spot is below Själevads kyrka; a hiking trail runs along the water there. Swimming conditions are seasonal, and trail conditions can vary depending on the time of year. If you plan to visit the waterside trail or bathing spot, take these seasonal conditions into account.
Church architecture in Själevad
Själevads kyrka is an octagonal neoclassical central-plan church, characterised by restrained design. For an architecture-focused visit, you can consider its form and style separately: the octagon describes the shape, while neoclassical describes the design.
