Uddheden combines cultural history with trails by the lake and in the Rottnan Delta. There are several perspectives to consider when planning a stay: the heritage of the church village, the setting of Gräsmark Church, easy hiking trails, and tours on the water and in winter. You can tailor your trip to the landscapes and activities that interest you most.

Church Village, Church and Lake

Uddheden developed as a church village and a center in the Rottnadalen valley. Gräsmark Church is an important landmark in this history: the stone building was constructed between 1733 and 1739 and stands on a promontory in Lake Udden. The ceiling painting depicts the Last Judgment and was created by Erik Jonaeus.

The cemetery is also beside Lake Udden, which borders it to the north and east. In the center of Uddheden, there is a scenic viewpoint overlooking Lillsjön and the church. Lillsjön is the local name for Lake Udden. A visit therefore brings together different points of interest: the history of the church village, the architecture of the stone church, and the lakeside landscape.

Hiking Trails Between the Church and the River Delta

Lillsjön runt is an easy, 4.5-kilometer hiking trail that starts at Gräsmark Church. It goes around Lake Udden, locally called Lillsjön, and passes through the center of Uddheden. Along the way, there are lovely views of the lake and the church. The trail connects the town center with the lakeside landscape.

The easy Uddheden–Gräsmarksdeltat hiking trail offers a different landscape. It is about 4.8 kilometers long and runs along the delta of the Rottnan River. The trail starts at the southern end of Rottnavallen. A shorter option starts at a road near the old sawmill, where there is a small parking area. Another option, Deltarundan, passes through a delta landscape on the outskirts of Uddheden.

The two easy trails are similar in length, at 4.5 and about 4.8 kilometers. The landscape is therefore a more useful way to choose between them: Lillsjön runt features views of the lake and church, while the Uddheden–Gräsmarksdeltat trail focuses on the river delta. Trail conditions may vary. Access information for the Uddheden–Gräsmarksdeltat trail may change with local land use; check the guidance before setting out.

Canoe Tours and Swimming Area

The canoe route continues via Sågendammen onto Lillsjön and ends at the swimming area. The canoe route in Gräsmark follows a section of the Rottnan past Uddheden. It is 11.6 kilometers long and has two signposted launch sites. Water levels and conditions can change with the seasons, so take this into account when planning a trip on the water.

The Lillsjön swimming area in Uddheden faces south. It offers a place to swim as another way to enjoy the water. Together, the routes showcase different aspects of the landscape: Lake Udden, also known as Lillsjön, the Rottnan River, and the delta landscape.

Cross-Country Skiing in Winter

There are electrically lit cross-country ski trails along the Rottnan in Uddheden. Whether they can be used depends on snow conditions. If cross-country skiing is an important part of your trip, check the conditions for your planned dates. This lets you distinguish the winter experience from the hiking and water activities, which have different routes and landscape highlights.
