If you’re looking for a hotel in Gräsmark, nature, water and regional history can shape your stay. Three nature reserves, numerous hiking trails and several swimming spots are designated in Gräsmark. The trails offer different highlights: some lead to viewpoints or follow the water, while others showcase the area’s cultural and mining history. This can help you decide which experiences matter most when choosing your destination.

Nature and a Finnish-influenced cultural landscape

Tiskaretjärn is a nature reserve and a characteristic setting in Finnbygden. This cultural landscape emerged from Finnish colonization in the late 16th century. At Tiskaretjärn, you can experience the traditional cultural landscape and buildings of Finnskogen. Here, a nature reserve meets traces of a historic cultural landscape.

The Finnsjöns hiking trail also has a cultural and historical focus: it tells the story of a region at the crossroads of forest-Finnish heritage and Swedish säter culture. If you want to take in not only the landscape but also its cultural influences while hiking, this themed route offers a different experience from a trail described primarily in terms of its length, river course or viewpoints.

Hiking trails with different highlights

The Deltaleden is a very easy 4.8-kilometre route. For most of its length, it follows the Rottnan River to Lake Rottnen. The Västra Råtjärnsleden offers another specific distance: at 8 kilometres, it is longer than the Deltaleden and climbs to several viewpoints. The trail descriptions therefore differ both in length and focus—one follows the river to the lake, while the other climbs to viewpoints.

The Västra Råtjärnsleden was formerly called Styggbergsstigen. You can start the hike at Naturcamping Lagom; alternatively, you can park at the nearby swimming spot. In the area traversed by the route, hyperite rock has contributed to the formation of nutrient-rich moraine, supporting a diverse flora. The geology and plant diversity are therefore also among the described features of this hiking area.

The Ängenleden runs around Lake Ängsjön and offers nature and cultural experiences. Along with the cultural and historical themes of the Finnsjöns hiking trail and the viewpoints on the Västra Råtjärnsleden, it shows how the hiking trails complement one another with their different highlights.

Lakes, rivers and swimming spots

The many lakes and waterways in Gräsmark offer great opportunities for swimming, paddling and fishing. Trötvik, on Lake Rottnen, is a 700-metre-long, south-facing sandy beach with a gently sloping sandy bottom. If water and swimming are a priority when planning your trip, this is a specifically described beach landscape in addition to the general opportunities at the lakes and waterways.

Mining history and visiting hours

The Gruvrundan passes through the Mangen mining area between Lakes Mången and Trehörningen. Along the route are remains of copper works, ore-processing works, mines, an ore transport cableway, slag heaps and a soapstone quarry. The loop therefore offers a different focus from trails that primarily highlight waterways, cultural landscapes or viewpoints.

Gräsmarks kyrka can also be a destination.
